3. Stars & Stripes Forever

Maybe I'm totally missing something here, but I've always found this line very offensive.

"This land was made for you and me"

Huh??? WTF? First of all, if I weren't religious (which I am) I would be offended by the notion of the land being "made" with a purpose.

2nd of all, Why the hell is it more made for you and me. What about the animals? What about the trees? What about the bugs? Made for you and me? Makes no sense at all.

Also, it seems to say we have a right to the land, and that we have the destiny to own it all. Maybe it's suggesting a collective ownership? Doesn't it seem to presuppose that it wasn't made for the Native Americans?

I've always found this song insideous, and I'm trying to figure out why progressives like it.

Now "This Log Was Made for You and Me" from the Simpsons I can get behind...

Hey look it's heading out to sea.

10. No, but seriously...

I don't mean to offend. Of course, I have fond memories of the song, but it's been bugging me as to why nobody questions particularly that line.

Maybe I'm just being overly analytical or something.
