Picasso Painting sets world record - $104.1 million (in absolute numbers)
"Boy With Pipe" went tonight at auction for 104.1 million buckaroos.

A rare Rose Period Picasso, "Boy With a Pipe (The Young Apprentice)," sold for $104.1 million, eclipsing the world record set in 1990 when van Gogh's "Portrait of Dr. Gachet" sold at Christie's in New York for $82.5 million. (Adjusted for inflation, that figure would be more than $116 million in 2003 dollars.)

please note that the article talks about "last night", but it's dated may 6, so it really means tonight, since the article is intended for May 6 printing for the Times. It just shows up earlier on the web.

2. I think it's in the UN
Edited on Wed May-05-04 09:41 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Or some public space - I remember when Rummy or one of those warmongering asshole Christian assmunches was declaring war on Iraq, or some such inanity, he did it standing in front of Guernica but, following out great Jesus-respecting Attorney General, he had a screen put in front of the painting. And I'm thinking that was the UN, but I bet I'm totally wrong. But I know that whoever the evil warmongerer was, he was standing in front of Guernica, and had it covered up for the media(whore) announcement.

I'm sure someone can let us know where it actually is.

3. Guernica has rightfully been returned to Spain
I believe Picasso wanted it returned after Franco died.

4. Ah, perhaps then it was just a print that the warmongerer was in front of
which is perfectly possible.
