7. Yay!!!! Let us celebrate the Mexican victory over the French
at the Battle of Puebla (1862). Damn Napoleon III! :D

Of course it took about 5 more years for the French to be defeated finally, but Cinco de Mayo was the start of the uprising - it gave them hope!

8. Taco Bell for dinner!
Ole!

(and, since this is T.B. we're talking about, there is no accent on the "e." Yes, I am aware that I just abbreviated Taco Bell with the same abbreviation used for tuberculosis -- I think it is accurate. But I do loves me some ass beans!)

11. oh I hope you are not serious
go somewhere that is good. Sorry. Taco Bell is scary, when there are so many good geniune and not gross Mexican restaurants around. (and yes, I have eaten their food, and that is why I am admonishing you.)

freinds of ours say that El Campesino, a chain here, is good and genuine. Don't know if you have that out your way.

:)

now I will go back to minding my own beeswax....

12. There is plenty of good, authentic Mexican areound here.
Quite a large Latino (mostly Mexican) population in my town.

I am not in the mood for good, authentic Mexican cuisine.

I am in the mood for "enchiritos."

in a good way. But then I like strange people! They keep me sane. And now I must go to a meeting and pretend that I know what I am talking about.

18. iFeliz Cinco de Mayo!
I'm headed off to the first grade to do a Cinco de Mayo party today. We filled the pinata last night and made up the gift bags. I'm playing some wicked hot salsa and cumbia for the kids as well as some more traditional Mexican music just to liven things up... We may even play a game or two of Benito Juarez says!

When our daughter started to school, we decided that every year we'd make an offer to her teachers that we'd do one party per year for a holiday that isn't usually celebrated here locally. Last year it was Mardi Gras, and this year it is Cinco de Mayo. I'm hoping somebody chooses a Japanese or Chinese festival sometime, but I have to say, the last two have been a hoot to do.

We go shopping with our daughter and let her taste foods and candies from whatever culture we are celebrating, we play music for her to decide what the class will like, and then we plan the games and decorations. It makes her feel really special, and it is neat to see these kids grooving on stuff they might not get to see and do ordinarily.

We've been counting down to this for the last couple months!!!

Laura
