What recurring dreams have you had?
Dreams are interesting, but I find recurring dreams even more so.

I haven't had any lately but I used to have some when I was younger.

I remember I used to have a recurring dream about flying - but the most unusual thing is that it usually took place in the public library. I would sort of use some muscle just above my tailbone to just pick myself up, then I could sort of fall in the direction I wanted to go, but always being held up by that muscle above my tailbone. After some practice I could swoop around pretty well.

I used to have another recurring dream when I was very young -- like elementary school or junior high -- that I was romantically attached to a deaf girl (although in one dream she was blind). I can still remember what she looked like and I still find myself attracted to women who have that type of look.

Then when I was in high school I started having a recurring dream that I was driving a vehicle going very fast, out of control, or more accurately, just barely under my control. Sometimes it was a bicycle unexpectedly descending a too-steep slope, but more often it was a car that was suddenly hurtling in reverse at high speed.

But the most unusual was a series of recurring dreams an ex girlfriend described. She recounted that in her childhood, she kept dreaming that she was trying to push a large mattress through a small door with a pin. With endless variations. She would dream about turning the mattress different ways to get it to fit, she would dream about shopping for different kinds of pins to use, she would dream about using a tape measure to measure the mattress, and then the doorway, folding the mattress first and then using the pin, and so on. She said her parents reported her pratically doing somersaults in her sleep. And then one day, she fell off the bed, and never had the dream again.

1. I have had a few..
One when I was a child, I was chased by a vacuum cleaner. Like an old old old style vacuum.

I also have a recurring theme in my nightmares. A geyser of blood.

Did anyone in your family have a vacuum like that? Or was it maybe a play on words...?

3. all my best dreams are set in . . .
fantasy SF neighborhoods that don't exist. Weird amalgams of Twin Peaks, Noe Valley, Bernal Heights, and the Castro etc.

These fantasy neighborhood always seem to have lots of bars and clubs and interesting people and vacant apartments, and I always think in my dream: how come I never discovered this neighborhood before.

Starnge because I haven't lived near SF for many years. Got too expensive and difficult and yuppified.

4. two types
In one I am swimming, and the current is too strong and I can not fight it. This makes no sense to me, I swim well, am an ex navy diver was on swim teams and spend most of my free time on, in or near the water.

The other is I am being chased by something, different things each time, As hard as I try I can not run, I try but I go nowhere.

Ok, the psychology majors can now explain this to me and tell me what drugs need to be taken/quit to alleviate these dreams.

15. Those are really common sorts of dreams
No drugs needed! ;-) Dreams of drowning are common in people who feel overwhelmed; they can aso be post-traumatic symptoms in someone who has nearly drowned.

Being chased is a universal dream-symbol; all children will have dreams of being chased by something, often animals.

5. When I'm stressed
When I'm stressed I'll dream about being in a car going out of control; or about deep-fried snakes that are still alive and weakly moving.

I used to dream about tornadoes a lot.

Then there are the dreams that happen in the same place, but different things happen each time. There are some that happen in a desert place where I am looking for a blue sphere, and others that are set in a town with an ornate bridge that swallows nest under.

And there are other dreams--nightmares, mostly.

I post all my dreams on the Twisk dreambase: http://www.twisk.com/zoek.asp?type=snel&zoekdromer=Tucker

8. I have a recurring waking dream
that there is a large spider in my bed. I've actually buggered up my should from swift reaction as I beat the imaginary spider to death before I fully awoke

9. I dream of an Alpine meadow
I am wearing a blue uniform, with white crossed belts and carrying something (a musket?). I am running and I know it is for my life. I hear hoofbeats behind me getting closer. I turn to fight and see a cavalryman swinging his sabre. End of dream. I have it several time a year.

17. I don't get a clear enough view of what I'm wearing but
I would describe the cavalryman as probably a French Cuirassieur, heavy cavalry, breastplate and helmet, Napoleonic era.

18. Interesting
I know someone who figured out his past-life identity partly based on a uniform he was wearing in a dream.

20. I've done some research
but haven't been able to find any battle fought by Napoleon's troops that would match the alpine, Switzerland-like scenery. I thought about it perhaps being in the Pyrenees, perhaps during his invasion of Spain, but the scenery isn't quite right.

16. white house on a mountain
Before I moved into it, I used to have dreams about a white house. The house was always located on a steep mountain incline. Sometimes it would be located in a mountain crevice. The house was always up, up, up. It was up in the air or up on a mountain.

The people in the house always made me feel wonderful. These people were creative and often dressed in white with gold embroidery on their clothing. I would be happy for days after having such a dream.

One day, when I was working on the down slope end of my property, I looked up and saw my house. I realized it was the house I'd been having dreams of all my life. I didn't recognize it from the front, but I did from the side.

21. here's mine
I'm in my grandmother's house, and I'm in the back bedroom. I'm playing with stuff on the floor. There's a sound that I am semi-concious of, like a scratching sound. All of the sudden I realize that someone is trying to break in through the garage door! So I run to the door, to try to put something heavy against it. As soon as I get there, he succeeds in opening the door, and it's.....

Bruce Springsteen! But dressed as a 1950s "hood" with a black leather jacket, pompador, tight jeans and motorcycle boots. Then I always wake up.

23. Nuclear bombs going off across the river
I lived directly across from a known nuclear target. We had duck and cover drills in school and emergency broadcasts on TV.
