How long after neutering till my kitty starts loving me again?
It's been a week! He won't purr. He won't play. He just looks at me and walks away.

Now I feel like a really bad daddy.

(Well, OK, not really! I know it had to be done.)

4. Quinn came around pretty quickly.
I got some dirty looks, but after a week or two he was totally back to himself :).

Get him some kitty treats. Pet him as often as you can and play with him. He'll come around.

Quinn's gotten a lot darker, but they definitely look like they're related :). Their faces are A LOT alike.

Did you ever see the pic of Quinn's real sister?

She looks MEAN :).

9. What's funny is that the owner of Quinn's sister . . .
is a total Pat Robertson style religious right whacko. Funny that they'd pick the evil lookin' kitty and I get Quinn the cutest kitten on the planet :).

6. Usually when it stops hurting
Although we had one a couple of years ago who got so ticked off he moved out. Turned out he belonged to the neighbors in the first place and had just gone home. I still see him every now and then patroling down by the garden. He doesn't speak to me.

15. At least you cat doesn't horde empty bottles of water
My count from last night when I housecleaned was 22 bottles hidden either under my bed, under the kitchen table or behind the chair in the bedroom.

I need a digital camera!!!

18. It depends on how much it hurts, but ...
you really didn't have to get yourself neutered -- you and your cat can't breed together, anyway.

19. cat nip. . .
the fresh is far better than the dried stuff. I don't know about this mandatory neutering policy. I know that the cat population reproduces like rabbits and there are not enough homes. Yada yada yada. But when I acquired two litter mates ( one male and one female ) from the local pound seven years ago, they demanded a $50 bounty on each of their eventual sterility. I had the male fixed first. It was cheaper. They were indoor cats. Then the pound started harrassing me on a weekly basis about having the female sterilized. It was a slow time for me and when I postulated how a female cat could possibly get impreganted, when confined with a neutered male, they only became more indignant. I eventually had it done. But I feel that most animals are far happier if they have one litter or sexual experience first.

But do these pound people have to be such thugs? I've met too many hyper dogs who definately seem traumatized. The only way to calm them down is to rub their breastplate. It seems as though it's the only way one can distract them from their missing cojones.

21. Thugs?
Hardly.

So many dogs and cats are put to death each day in this country. While your cat may indeed be an 'indoor' cat there's always a chance that she could get out one day.

I'm not trying to be rude or condescending but try working at an animal shelter for a month and see how you feel then.

22. Sorry I concede, that may have been a little harsh. . .
I did at one time, volunteer at an animal shelter and couldn't stand seeing animals "put down" based on space availability and abstract timelines.

But believe me. . .these folks were unneccessarily rude. It was the dead of winter and the female couldn't get out. I was a month overdue on her sterility bounty and they must of called me twenty times and treated me like a criminal. I just felt that thier efforts would have been better served placing animals in loving homes than harrassing me harshly on some occasions, more than once a day regarding my tardiness.

24. there are other reasons to spay female cats
besides population control.

Cats are induced ovulators, which means that they will continue to go in and out of heat until ovulation is induced by the male. Imagine having PMS every 10 days or so like clockwork. Spaying also eliminates or decreases the risk for infections and disease, if done in a timely manner (mammary tumors, for one, which are 98% malignant in cats). Remember, too, that when those hormones are running high, the most couch-potatoey of cats has been known to escape in order to look for love. That said, there is no excuse for rudeness on their part. Try if you can, though, to give them the benefit of the doubt - they have a tough job.

23. Our cats didn't seem to care!
We have a brother and sister. I had them both fixed at six months. I really worried about bringing them home- moved a cat box upstairs to be closer for urgent needs, etc. She sat down and began to try to remove her three bright pink stitches (never succeeded). He just watched. In a few hours, he grabbed her as she walked past and threw her to the ground for a friendly wrestling match. And that was that! She's still very alert, somewhat feisty. He's still a large, loose bundle of love.
