MISSION OF BURMA are to release their first material in 22 years.

The Boston trio will release 'OnoffON' on May 31. The album was recorded with the bands original producer Rick Harte and Shellac's Bob Weston.

The group, who played at the London ICA earlier in the month, released 'VS' in 1982, shortly before the band parted ways in 1983. The band have recorded the new album with the original line-up.

-With this and the Pixies reunion, is history officially over? How soon 'til the Husker Du reunion?

MC5 have unveiled plans for a world tour under their new name MC5/DKT .

The new name denotes the three members of the band, Michael Davis, Wayne Kramer, and Dennis Thompson.

The tour will coincide with the release of the band's DVD 'Sonic Revolution: A Celebration of the MC5', which charts the band's success. The film also includes footage of the band's 2003 London 100 Club gig, which featured guest appearances from artists such as Motorhead's Lemmy.

The band also made news today (April 22), as bandmemberWayne Kramer has stopped the release of the movie 'MC5: A True Testimonial', insisting he has not been credited properly.

The film, which was scheduled

A little rough, but still good stuff.

I have an OnoffON t-shirt in the closet. :D

4. Funny that this was in today's NME, seeing as it's already happened
Maybe there's a time-delay between Austin and London.

5. Well, there were Brits in attendance.
Maybe not at that show, but there was a general awareness of SXSW by certain folks residing in the UK. :D

7. Yeah, it has the same cultural cache there as Glastonbury does here
It's like a mythic shangri-la of indie rock.

8. Of course, with Tyner dead over a decade...
...they're gonna need a vocalist.

I've heard Kramer sing. He ain't gonna cut it.

And as much as I respect Wayne as a songwriter/guitarist/general rabblerouser, I always preferred the six-string histrionics of one Fred Smith -- which is why Sonic's Rendezvous Band was the best of the post-MC5 projects (well, that and the addition of Scott Morgan). Sonic is also dead, so....

I'll probably see them if they come around here, but I don't see it as any huge event.

9. Without Sonic and Tyner, it's gonna be difficult.
Perhaps they could recruit Sonic's wife, that at least would be interesting!

10. Okay.
I would give MY LEFT NUT to see Patti sing with the Motor City 3.

SHIT, that's what I'm gonna call 'em. They're the MC3. Any debate? No? It's settled.

Anyway, I bet she could cut right from "Future/Now" to "Redondo Beach" without missing a beat. Damn, that would be tight. Now you got me all jacked up over something that ain't gonna happen. Screw you, Byron!

11. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think this is what they
have to do. It would be perfect. Can anyone say Petition?

12. Either that or get Al Hedges to sing.
The high notes in "Poison" would have to be sung in a wispy falsetto, but everything else is doable (that is, if one is tolerant of a dramatic dropoff in quality; which would be inevitable anyway, even if Tyner had lived).
