What I learned at DU yesterday
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 02:14 PM by mharris660
1. Well, I learned that Tuesday would NOT have been a good day to post a free link to a certain Elton John/Tina Turner song.

2. And America's youth is alive and well here at DU. Way to go cqhays, congrats on your 1000. Also good to see neverborn and starfiend15, you guys rock, you're our future.

1. DU has great features and few trolls
I just joined here yesterday, having never visited before. I've posted on other progressive sites that aren't nearly so well-managed, and have huge amounts of trolls that come back again and again. Plus, the pages here are faster loading than other sites. Guess I'll stick around for a while. Hope you like my sometimes caustic sense of humour... and my supreme abhorrence of Bushco. :)

7. Welcome aboard, I am less than a year old myself here...
...but have had many a battle on usenet, and several hundred other boards. I used to do the old BBS systems, back in the eighties when they were called "echos", and you had to modem in to someones PC in their house to post a message.

Ah the good old days.

5. What I learned at DU yesterday by Y.R. Duckie...
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 02:04 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
I learned that no matter what anyone says, someone is going to be offended by it, no matter how they say it or mean it.

I learned I'm not free to call myself anything, if I don't happen to have that trait, or am that myself. Because someone's going to get offended by it and bitch about it for five hours straight.

I learned that I can be honest when everyone else is slinging bullshit and lying, and people will love me anyway.

I learned that no matter what I have a voice. And I have to use it.

I leanred that if I don't take up for my friends, probably no one will.

I learned that I have some of the greatest friends here at DU that anyone would ever ask for. Kleeb, Skippy, Lizz, Neo, Eks, Allen, Tony, Pad and the rest, you are great kids, and I'm so glad you're here.
Thanks for the youth comment, that was very nice.
Love,
Duckie

9. Funny...I learned...
that no matter how often you try to explain to some people that they're being offensive...there will still be people who stand up for their right to be an ass.

I learned if you stand up for what you believe in with passion that people will call you a fascist and a brown-shirt and worse.

I learned that there are a significant number of people on this board who don't care about the feelings of others and revel in that fact.

I learned that some people would rather you just shut up than disagree with them.

11. I'll agree with the entire thing...
But neither side are innocent of anything you just said.

14. I dunno about that...
I have yet to call any of my oponents in this particular fight any incendiary names. But people have felt free to sling them at me. Then again, calling me a Fascist reflects more on the person who did it than it does on me.

15. Wasn't talking about you...
And I called no one anything...I could have, but I like to attack the argument, not the person making it.

16. I wish everyone was like that...
it would certainly be a more civil discussion and then maybe we'd finally be able to talk it all out instead of the threads always getting locked just about the time they get interesting.
