3. One (or all) of the following:
Rain Dogs, Blue Valentine, Bone Machine, Frank's Wild Years, Small Change.

I can't pick JUST one; I MIGHT be able to narrow it down to about three out of those (probably Rain Dogs, Small Change and Bone Machine).

Side note, are you familiar with Nick Cave? If you aren't you ought to check out his music. You'll probably dig it if you like Waits.

5. Here's a few good ones to start out with...
"No More Shall We Part", "Let Love In", "Murder Ballads", "The Boatman's Call"...all quite good. And some of his earlier stuff is magnificent, too, like "Tender Prey" (especially the song "The Mercy Seat"...Johnny Cash did a great cover of this on one of his American Recordings albums).

6. Yeah ! -- NICK CAVE, alright!
I saw him live here in Seattle several years ago, during his "The Boatman's Call" tour, and he was fantastic. Me and my best friend were madly in love with him at the time..

Cave's "Kicking Against The Pricks" is a good, Tom Waitsish sort of album of many great covers. He has a really good cover of "All Tomorrow's Parties" by The Velvet Underground.

10. I can't decide - it depends on the day!
But Rain Dogs and Mule Variations are generally my favs. Sometimes I get in a Nighthawk's at the Diner mood and I have to have it. There's generally booze involved!

17. Lately I really like the tirle track of Alice - it's haunting
But, all time - I like "I can'y wait to get off work to see my baby" for sentimental reasons.

25. don't forget
He had a cameo in Coppola's "The Outsiders", as the guy who answered the door when Ponyboy and Johnny were looking for Dally at the bar. I think he landed a role in "The Cotton Club" too, but would need verification.

My favorite Waits movie role along with "Short Cuts" was as the hobo (pefect casting) in "Ironweed", with Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. Depressing movie, but worth a look.

19. Bone Machine
it's the first Tom Waits I heard. I hated it at first... but I slowly realized the genius of Tom Waits.

21. when I was at art school in NYC I had a watercolor teacher who played him
All the time. Him and Johnny Cash. I hated them both for a semester and then simply fell in love with both of them. The rest is history.

The same thing happened with Tori Amos....hey, time for a new thread.

24. Rain Dogs
"Walking Spanish", "Gun Street Girl", "Cemetary Polka"... hard to choose a favorite album, but this one got me into Waits way back when, and I love it.
