Starch is polymeric sugar. It's broken down into simple carbohydrates and then goes through glycolysis, glucose going to usual way while other sugars being transformed into glucose or other useful intermediates, and the sugar is oxidized to carbon dioxide and the energy used to phosphorylate ADP and reduce NAD+.
