Things you should know before abusing OxyContin
http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/label/2001/20553s022lbl.htm
This is the ACTUAL OxyContin warning insert.

drug abuse and addiction

OxyContin® is a mu-agonist opioid with an abuse liability similar to morphine and is a Schedule II controlled substance. Oxycodone, like morphine and other opioids used in analgesia, can be abused and is subject to criminal diversion.

"Drug-seeking" behavior is very common in addicts and drug abusers. Drug-seeking tactics include emergency calls or visits near the end of office hours, refusal to undergo appropriate examination, testing or referral, repeated "loss" of prescriptions, tampering with prescriptions and reluctance to provide prior medical records or contact information for other treating physician(s). "Doctor shopping" to obtain additional prescriptions is common among drug abusers and people suffering from untreated addiction.

Drug addiction is characterized by compulsive use, use for non-medical purposes, and continued use despite harm or risk of harm. Drug addiction is a treatable disease, utilizing a multi-disciplinary approach, but relapse is common.

The opioid abstinence or withdrawal syndrome is characterized by some or all of the following: restlessness, lacrimation, rhinorrhea, yawning, perspiration, chills, myalgia, and mydriasis. Other symptoms also may develop, including: irritability, anxiety, backache, joint pain, weakness, abdominal cramps, insomnia, nausea, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, or increased blood pressure, respiratory rate, or heart rate.

1. But the major thing to remember
is that if you are going to abuse this narcotic, it is best to be a insufferable right wing prick with friends in Washington so you won't be arrested for illegal narcotics distribution.

3. Abuse is one thing...
there's MANY people out there who NEED and RELY on Oxycontin for pain management.
What upsets me is the druggies who crush this med for a "high". Did anyone ever find out what dosage/mg Rush-boy was using??

4. What REALLY pisses me off...
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 10:43 PM by DoNotRefill
is the way the DEA has tightened up the legal market. I need a decent pain medication for chronic back pain associated with a birth defect and a car accident. I have a legitimate use for it, and don't want to take it recreationally. Yet the doctors around here are afraid to prescribe any serious medication, since the cops busted a doctor for being "easy on the prescription pad" and destroyed his practice, even though he was acquitted.

So I do without medication, and have to put up with the pain. It SUCKS I TELL YOU!!!!

I wish each and every person who came up with the stupid regs had to treat pain associated with a partially missing spinal column with tylenol...BASTARDS!!!

:grr:
