The DRAFT has already begun! Bush will reinstate the DRAFT for all men under 26 on April 1, 2005 if he is reselected. The first DRAFT LOTTERY would then be June 15, 2005! (SSS 2004 Perf Plan)

Army Trying to Keep Troops From Leaving

Jan 5, 6:34 PM (ET)

By ROBERT BURNS

WASHINGTON (AP) - About 7,000 U.S. soldiers in Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan who were planning to retire or otherwise leave the service in the next few months are getting new marching orders: Stay put.

The Army is expanding what it calls a "stop loss" order to keep soldiers in uniform - even those who have met their contractual service obligation or are scheduled to retire - during a rotation of tens of thousands of troops that begins this month and is scheduled to finish in May.

Col. Elton Manske, chief of the Army's enlisted division, said Monday that the move was deemed necessary to maintain the cohesion and combat effectiveness of units now operating in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He did not explain why the Army cannot manage the readiness of its forces in Iraq and Afghanistan without forcing soldiers to stay in the service beyond their scheduled retirement or enlistment period. Critics say it is because the Army has too few soldiers and too many overseas commitments.

1. Well, as far as I know, they know this is a possibility when they committ,
It is aweful and it is wrong that people are there, but this isnt some new policy. Enlisted soldiers are fully aware that they can be compelled to stay in service in war time.

4. Not the point.
Our armed forces are obviously overextended. The next step is a draft.

5. War time?
If you read the PNAC plans for the past, present, and future...we will be in a perennial state of "war" - which, by definition, is NOT what we're in. That means forever, forever, forever. Uh....wars have to be declared by Congress. Sillly little technicality.

There is no way Bush will accomplish his goal of military global domination without a draft. You can keep the soldiers for an extended tour, but not indefinitely. They're losing the top as well as the enlisted personnel. They're not enlisting and not reupping voluntarily. Fun time ahead.

2. He did not explain? Critics say?
It is a fact. The Army is too small for the open ended elective war policy of the commander in thief. Experts predicted this problem when the sabre rattling began. Remember the new Lite Army? It doesn't work. We have the smallest regular army since before Vietnam. It was downsized by Cheney Bush 5 year plan in FY 91, and was never brought back to strength.

So all you reservists and national guard that haven't yet been mobilized better get your kit bags ready. Active duty, don't unpack or make any plans.
