NYT reports Bush lied about writing poem to wife-anyone surprised no media
took note of yet another Bush lie - all the while the media was worrying about truth telling among Dems?

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/29/politics/29LAUR.html

THE FIRST LADY
Laura Bush Has Words of Advice for Americans and Her Husband
By CATE DOTY

ASHINGTON, Dec. 28 — Laura Bush said on Sunday that Americans must stay vigilant not only in preparing for possible terrorist attacks but also in comforting their children as fears of terrorism increase.
Appearing on "Meet the Press" on NBC, the first lady discussed her National Book Festival, public service and education across the nation. <snip>

The first lady also said that the "Roses are red, violets are blue" poem she read at a National Book Festival gala in October was not actually written by her husband even though it has been attributed to him. She did not say who wrote the poem.

"But a lot of people really believed that he did," she said. "Some woman from across the table said, `You just don't know how great it is to have a husband who would write a poem for you.' "

<snip>

So we have Bush lie Technique number number 1043: Have staff tell lie, and do not correct press who then repeat lie about poem writing husband - then correct lie in the paper of record - the New York Times - via a buried paragraph in much different story - just so you can claim to be a truth teller.

Thus the New York Times Ed board will worry about Dean's - or any Dems's - truth telling, even taking the Dems quote out of context to prove they have reason to worry, while being happy that they - the NYT Ed Board - KNOWS that Bush tells truth - eventually - or his wife will - maybe.

That's not a poem by a long stretch. Most first graders are more articulate. Heaven help if my husband hand me ANYTHING referring to me as "lump in the bed".

7. I think he did write it, but it was SO bad and embarrassing
they decided that to say they lied was better than to say he really did it. Either way - another big fat lie.

23. I totally agree!
Of course he wrote that piece of garbage -- without even realizing how insulting (and stupid) it sounded. Now, since it didn't "play" well, it is disavowed.

Bingo!

11. The Busheviks lie about EVERYTHING. Simply everything...
Nixon occasionally told the truth.

Raygun occasionally told the truth, when his Emperor let him.

Clinton usually told the truth about policy, lied when forced (undoubtedly breaking several conspiracy and RICO laws) into a perjury trap about a consensual affair.

Ike, the last honest Republican pResident told the truth so much it surprised me that they let him live, especially about where the Busheviks (MI Complex) would take the nation if we allowed them.

I have never seen a group lie so compulsively and shamelessly outside the confines of a Totalitarian Society like the Soviet Union, Marcos' Phillipines, Nazi Gerrmany, etc.

Oh, that's right, I forgot the Old American Republic ended on Dec. 12, 2000.

Which means I STILL have never seen a group lie so compulsively and shamelessly outside the confines of a Totalitarian Society

20. She was misleading, which is a lie by the dictionary I use (Websters)
President Bush is a great leader and husband - but I bet you didn't know, he is also quite the poet. Upon returning home last night from my long trip, I found a lovely poem waiting for me.

So she said bush* is a "poet" and that she found a "lovely poem waiting" for her when she got home. She didn't say bush* wrote it. Same way bush* didn't say Hussein was behind 9-11. :eyes:

Erich Segal's statement that he based the character of Oliver Crawford in "Love Story" partly on Gore and partly on Tommy Lee Jones. The Ministry of Truth is doing their work, I guess.

21. "Oh my lump in the bed" written by someone else?
Who?

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Oh my lump in the bed
How I've missed you

Roses are redder
Bluer am I
Seeing you kissed by that charming French guy

The dogs and the cat, they missed you too
Barney's still mad you dropped him, he ate your shoe
The distance, my dear, has been such a barrier
Next time you want an adventure, just land on a carrier

-George W Bush (not as it turns out)

24. This doggeral has Barney's pawprints all over it...
Unnamed White House staffers close to the terrier believe he was pressured by someone at the top to write the poem. The "lump in the bed" reference is clearly written in Barney's prose style. Notice the other reference to Barney being mad at Laura for dropping him.

This poem represents yet another example of Bush deflecting blame on others for his actions while taking credit for things he did not do!

25. I believe she wrote it herself
I believe she has an inferiority complex and feels the need for self abuse. Otherwise why the "Lump in the Bed" part. If it wasn't her and it wasn't Bush* we need to call the morality police. Where is Bill Bennett anyway? Apparently there is adultery going on in the whitehouse. Questions need to be asked about the lying.

26. Okay, I'm not psychoanalyzing at a distance or anything ...
But I've had intimate experience with bipolar (manic-depressive) people, and they will lie to you about whether the sky is blue, even if the question you've asked has no real import. The person I used to have to deal with would actually lie to me about things I had no reason to even wonder, and didn't care about -- like whether a particular tool was purchased at Lowe's or Sears Hardware, or how much was paid for a bottle of soda at the convenience store.

Many bipolar people do this -- it's one of the ways they're diagnosed as bipolar, in fact. This whole freaking clown car administration acts like an untreated manic depressive. Any time somebody asks 'do they ever tell the truth?' I think of this experience because they give me nasty flashbacks to it.

33. and she lies to cover up the lie?
Edited on Tue Dec-30-03 07:18 PM by Marianne
Apparently she had no objection to being called a "lump in the bed" and it goes to show what she thinks of herself. She probably has been subjected to that type of humiliation all of her married life and by now probably believes she is indeed, a "lump in the bed" (well she is sort of lump and a frump, that I will say)

Now she is forced and most likely ordered to say that she lied about the romantic poem that was placed on her pillow. Ah, there is really no romance in the White House bedroom. George did NOT miss her at all while she was galavanting around France on our money, eating and shopping and doing not much else as an ambassadoress for the country. And she does it, lies, that is, with that rictus, joker smile, while telling us all how to raise our children. LOL, what an ass--what a BIG ass.!

36. Another "fact-checker" slip up?
Maybe it just slipped by the fact checkers, same as the uranium stuff in the State of the Union. Or it could have been over zealous lower level staff. Or maybe "the British" reported that he wrote it to Laura. Lots of possibilities.
