And now, "CONservative" Colorado's gay marriage poll!
...with suprisingly good news. Civil Unions get majority support from the state responsible for Amendment 2! Telling, especially since the Amendment's co-sponsors in the House and Senate are both Coloradans ...

47% oppose the marriage ban Constitutional Amendment.
42% favor it.

59% favor (strongly) Civil Unions.
33% strongly oppose Civil Unions.

snip... "The poll's results reveal that Colorado
residents' feelings aren't as
conservative as the rest of the country.

For instance, a nationwide New York
Times/ CBS News poll published last
week showed that 55 percent of
Americans favored the constitutional
amendment, while 40 percent opposed
the idea.

The author of the proposed amendment
is U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, a
conservative Republican from the
Eastern Plains. Her Colorado GOP
counterpart in the U.S. Senate, Wayne
Allard, has introduced the Federal
Marriage Amendment in that house.

Who says the West is full of knuckledragging Republicans? Who says the Fundies have a stranglehold on Colorado?

1. My favorite part....

"Part of the reason for the change in opinion on gay issues is the explosive growth Colorado experienced in the 1990s, Weigel said. People who moved here are more likely to be younger and have a college education, she said."

Thats the second reference I've seen today supporting the position that homophobes are older less educated people.....I'm trying to think of a way to make a not-too-offensive thread about it.

2. I think the phrase "less educated"
sums up a homophobe best. By less educated, I guess I mean not in a book smart way, but in a "hey I can think for myself" way.

3. It sounds like a stereotype, but...
The demographics breakdown, especially when it concerns this subject matter, usually fall into age groups. Of course there's always exceptions to the rules, but on average, people younger than 30 are more accepting of gay relationships than those 30-45 etc....with less acceptance the older the demographic gets.

The gay marriage issue falls directly into the "Product of his generation" category, if there ever was one.:-)

4. My experience here in CO
...has led me to believe that we have a lot of a little different segment of the "conservative" population. Mrs. Robb and I have been calling them "git-off-mah-land" conservatives. They get almost Libertarian when they start talking, and have a real "none of my business" approach to most social issues.

Colorado might be in play in 2004, who knows?

5. Well we did go with Clinton for both terms
anything could happen. But I doubt it.
