We need a new party for the DLC. "The Bland Whitebread Party."
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 06:24 PM by Armstead
No Liberals allowed. No Progressives allowed. No Conservatives allowed. No Greens allowed. No open gays allowed. No labor unions allowed. No minorities allowed. No hippies allowed. No "anti-free trade" protest creeps allowed. No environmentalist whackos allowed. No peaceniks allowed. No angry feminists allowed. No reformers allowed.

Just....er,er,er. Well we'll find someone for this new party. The center. yeah, that's it. The center. People with no identity, no opinions, no views, no interests. Yeah. That's the ticket.

Our party emblem will be a wombat.

3. Yup
It sometimes seems like the dominant tussle today is between the moderate conservatibe old-style GOP who now call themselves Democrats and the radical extreme right wing GOP.

18. According To The Most Recent Survey Data
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 06:55 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
17% of Americans consider themselves liberal

35% of Americans consider themselves conservative

and

40% of Americans consider themselves moderate

I'm not Einstein but it sure seems easier to get to 50% from 35% than it does from 17%

Facts are stubborn things....

31. I consider myself conservative
I want to conserve the things about America that I've always cherished and believed in.

I suspect most people when they call themselves "conservative" mean that.

But I consider myself liberal in that I believe certain public actions are necessary to protect those things.

Facts are stubborn things, tis true. But statements like "You can't be a liberal and win" is not a fact. It is an assertion based on a generality.

And next election we'll see all these people whining that the Greens are up to a whopping 7% with votes 'stolen' from the Democratic Party.

Well, they can't be called stolen if we give them to the Greens can they? I'm really getting sick of this center shit. People who stand in the center of the road get RUN OVER!

So be left or be right but NO STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ALL THIS TRAFFIC!

Looks like centrists are going to have to stop thinking they're the center of the world because they're fast turning what was already obscene, a two-party system, into a ONE-PARTY system... And you know what? That dog don't hunt.

It's all more yada, yada yada that is meant to confuse the populace while greening the pockets of the proclaimers. Some, even many, tend to believe it. I don't.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all convictions, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

The "Not as Bad" Party

That seems to be their battle cry. Any Democrat would be "not as bad" as Bush.

Universal Health Care -- Whatever the details (expanded Medicare, a public guaranteed "buy in" plan with rates pegged to income, whatever) but aggressively propose fight for and advance a clear plan to make certain that everyone has access to affordable health care. It can include private sector involvement -- but no more kowtowing to the insurance and corporate healthcare mafia.

Strong Anti-Trust Actions -- Eitehr through legislation or application of existing laws. But make as a priority to restore diversity to the economy, and challenge the excessive monopoly power of multi-national corporations

Fair Trade -- No more "free trade" that is really a giveaway to corporate interests at the expense of the real world economy and the true needs of people here and abroad. Rejection of these GATTs WTOs and other international forms of trickle down economics that are gutting the sovergnty of nations.

Livable Minimum Wage -- Our economy worked fine when the Minimum Wage was pegged to what was necessary to pay basic living expenses. That also affects all other wages too. We must restore that as a concept.

Public Services -- No more "privitization scams with electric power and otehr basic public services.
