Death For A Sticker On His Car
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=856&ncid=856&e=1&u=/nm/20031218/od_uk_nm/oukoe_iran_sticker

TEHRAN (Reuters) - An Iranian man faces a possible lengthy prison term or even the death penalty for attaching a sticker to the rear window of his car proclaiming "The era of arrogant rulers is over".

"My client faces jail for acting against national security just because of that sticker," attorney Mohammad Ali Dadkhah told Reuters on Thursday.

The charge of acting against national security normally carries a hefty prison sentence and in some cases has led to the death penalty being imposed.

5. Really?
Are you being serious? You'd be murdered by the government because of your car? Dude, that must be some wicked sled.

Have we really come to that? I guess I have to get out more.

6. Sometimes it's not the gov't directly
but brownshirt goons encouraged by the same to think killing someone ( or just physically accosting them ) is acceptable, even admirable behavior.

Timothy Mc Veigh was encouraged in his actions by Limbaugh and Liddy for example.

2. Oh man
Shoulda stayed with the Calvin peeing on a Ford symbol sticker.

On second thought, maybe not, might have cut off his pecker.

7. That's really a funny one.
"The era of arrogant rulers is over." I can't see how that would irritate any rulers unless they themselves realize that they ARE arrogant. To take offense is to admit the truth of the sticker, hmmmm?

8. this doesn't merit a diatribe against republicans...
but rather a statement as to how an ancient and honorable people (along with the Jews, one of the oldest literate cultures existing) are forced to continually be subject to, like so many other people in Middle East subject to the rule of totalitarian Islamo-fascists, cruelties and restrictions on speech and association that we can scarcely imagine. One can only hope that those of us who live in our democracy (with all of its imperfections and mistakes it makes) can at least be unified in hoping that countries such as Iran move, in their own way, into the modern world and have their people acquire basic freedoms.

9. While we move away from it?
Actually, people have had cars keyed and cursed at for expressing similar statements through bumper stickers.

If the Busheviks wanted to mirror what the Iranians are doing regarding bumper stickers not only would there be many volunteers to turn in "disloyal citizens" but I have no doubt that the Party-Loyal Sub-Media and the Corporate TV Pravda that dances to it's malign tune would be able to successfully obfuscate the situation for the rest of the Imperial Subjects.

In any case, in Imperial Amerika, it certainly appears that the Era of Arrogant Rulers has just begun...
