Has the FBI investigated any DU poster?
Has a DU poster been subjected to questioning under the Patriot Act?

Just wondering --- no, I'm not paranoid. But TIIC can be really vindictive.

3. I meant about their postings on DU boards
I know a few people who were "interviewed" about their antiwar activities. I was just wondering about postings here.

12. Similar to what happened to me
I was involved in the antiwar movement during the Vietnam era and apparently made my way onto a few watch lists of the day and got questioned in my dorm room by a couple officially-sanctioned thugs. It was probably supposed to scare me into changing my evil ways, but as a 19-year-old, I felt both a moral certitude and an invulnerability then that I wouldn't have today... :)

2. dont know I keep a low profile
I considered bringing my camera to a protest to see if anything got brutal. I am not a leader or anything although I would like to but I consider myself a rank and file person not a leader.

4. I'm sure they keep tabs on the board.
However, there are so many boards with even more rabid posts both left and right, that we are pretty tame by comparison. I think if posters started making threats or organizing illegal activities openly then they would be investigated individually. I couldn't care less anyway. If they don't like my brand of politics, then they can "bring it on".

5. That's what I was thinking
Clete,

I was leaning that way... I'm certainly not going to let fear of this keep me from posting. My question was really just a curiosity.

Thanks.

10. Please. we're lucky the FBI can find a telephone and put a quarter
in it, much less figure out how to handle a chat board like this.

No offense to any of the techie Fibbers out there.

ahem.

6. Skinner talked about this a while ago.
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 09:13 PM by umcwb
Skinner is the owner/founder of this board, in case you didn't know. I can't remember exactly what he said, so you might want to ask this question in the Ask the Administrator forum.

On edit: As far as I know, no poster would know if he was investigated. That's the scariest part of the PA, IMO. Only Admin would know.

7. I was for asking this question on the Bloomington,IN newpaper site.
"Can anyone tell me one positive thing Bush has done for America." I asked this in October 2002. I was called a terrorist by several posters and turned in to the FBI! Now I'm a DUer :) !

8. I had to LOL when I read of your...
being called a 'terrorist', that happens to me quite often. Not as often as being called a traitor, but enough to make me wonder what synapses are mis-firing in some people.

9. Awhile back, i had a few posts deleted...
because of content. The moderators have a job to do, and although I didn't think I was discussing anything about overthrowing the gov't or harming bush in any way, I respect them for the job they are doing.

The reason I mention this somewhat trivial episode, is because I believe that someone, from some agency, is trying to close down boards where they don't agree with the administration. The freeper site has some pretty violent people over there, and Clinton is a popular target, but bush has also been mentioned as a possible 'target'. I find the notion of harming people in office, (or anywhere else for that matter), somewhat repulsive. Of course I would fight to defend my country, my family or friends; but that is a somewhat different matter.

There have been freeper post about 'getting' bush. Having lived through one asassination, and several attempts, on our presidents, it is an experience I would not care to repeat.

I did get a call sometime back with someone identifying himself as Secret Service, but it turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, (at least that is what he said). Then again, I've also received a call from Chuck Hagel's office, with an invitation to meet with him whnen he was in the state.

11. If you had posts deleted,
It was not because of people trying to close down the site. Nothing that dramatic goes on in the decision to remove posts.
