2. The cynic in me agrees with you.
It's a Rovian ideal and I wouldn't put it past him to announce the death or capture of Saddam or Osama right before the general election.

7. I tend to agree with that
I happen to believe Saddam is already dead, but he's too good a boogeyman to let go until just before the election. Then, afterward, they can appoint a new boogeyman to justify the next war. Too bad all the really good boogeymen were installed and/or supported by the U.S. at some point.

4. It would tell me that we spent hundreds of Billions
When all we needed to spend on a single billion and the cost of a rifle (i.e. bribe one of the inner corps to take him out).

Instead, we got a quagmire.

5. It wouldn't matter
because the occupation does not currently depend on Saddam any more. It's about controlling the oil revenues first, and secondarily by "rebuilding" (what we destroyed) the U.S. is presumably made to look like good and kind and benevolent liberators.

10. saddam and osama
dead

they won't be captured

announcement shortly before the election

highly debatable whether the announcements will be the truth or just PR, but it won't matter. Americans can't tell the difference anymore.

11. They'll have Saddam's corpse displayed AFTER the Dem primary.
They have to make sure their chosen one wins.

12. Saddam's death would not change the facts of the case
The US invasion of Iraq was the moral equivalent of Saddam's invasion of Kuwait.

The US occupation of Iraq is the moral equivalent of Israel's occupation of Gaza.
