students file suit over school drug raid
looked to see if this had been posted and i didn't see it
I am particularly concerned with this is issue and the creeping
fascism here so I just wanted to make sure this had been posted:

http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/local/7430579.htm

Seventeen Stratford High School students are suing the city of Goose Creek and the Berkeley County school district in federal court, alleging police and school officials terrorized them in a drug raid last month.

Individuals named as defendants in the suit, filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Charleston, include: Stratford High School principal George McCrackin; Berkeley County school superintendent Chester Floyd; Goose Creek police Chief Harvey Becker; and Goose Creek police Lt. Dave Aarons.

The suit also names the city of Goose Creek, its police department and the Berkeley County School District as defendants.

1. There was a thread this morning about the raid
but not specifically about the lawsuit. Glad to see this happen. If we don't do something about this now, people will think it is normal for police to enter a school with guns drawn and harrass innocent students who "might" be carrying drugs. Then it will be round up all Muslims in this country because they "might" be terrorists. Then it will be round up all liberals, because they "might" be traitors.

2. Thanks for posting this.
As a former Goose Creek High School student (other side of the city), I was personally outraged. Is there anything in the suit concerning racial profiling? I'm almost certain the police were targeting black students.

3. There's been quite a bit of play on the tapes...
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 04:16 PM by rasputin1952
on CNN & MSNBC. This includes tapes on the ground, not just those from security cameras.

Shepherds barking at kids, kids in the hall with plastic cuffs, spoken: "keep your face to the wall"!.

This looks like a Gestapo invasion of a school. One thing brought out consistently: "No drugs were found".

Hope they all get stuck in the stocks in the Town Square, and produce is handed out liberally.

There was no justification for this. Our schools are institutions of learning; and to teach that the Bill of Rights has gone down the drain, is one that these kids learned very quickly.

4. I can't believe
that they had some of those kids in handcuffs. They hadn't done anything wrong!
