HELP: Source for "Clark Would Cut Military Budget Up To 25%" Quote?
I am persuading a couple of liberal friends to support Clark, and in addition to the Michael Moore transcript that I've already sent them, I am looking for the above quote. Can anyone help me out here? Thanks!

I saw this quote before. He said he'd probably look to the Air Force budget.

Hope he said it and that he meant it.

5. Was it "military budget" or the overall "defense budget"??
Obviously, the billions of dollars wasted in defense contract spending could be significantly reduced. Scrapping bullshit like Star Wars II : The Missile Defense System That Went Nowhere, for example.

That's a world of difference from cutting budget for the active military, and it seems like an odd statement for a General to make, especially when we're supposedly at "war".

6. I found these:
"Asked how he would pay for it, General Clark said he was open to some cuts in the budget he is more familiar with — the Pentagon's. "The armed forces are a want machine," he said. "They are structured to develop want."

http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0919-01.htm

"To a voter concerned about military bloat, Clark suggests that he wants to cut the Air Force budget. "I think we can do some things," he says. "They'll probably be Air Force things. I've looked at the Air Force budget. It's a little excessive."

Seems like he was talking about this around Sept. 18-22

Hope that helps!

12. Kucinich Said 15%
Clark also said he'd cut, and I'm still looking for the 25% quote.

13. Nytimes
I remember reading it in the nytimes.

It was when he first announced he would run. This tidbit was overshadowed by that supposed war flipflop. It was during that interview on the plane with those reporters.

They asked him about how he would fund healthcare, and he said he would do it by making cuts in the Pentagon's budget.

I believe the nytimes article is now archived, so probably inaccessible for free online. But from what I can gather on the net, it's the article titled "Clark says he would have voted for the war" in the Sept. 19th edition by Adam Nagourney, Late Edition - Final , Section A , Page 18 , Column 4.

Here's the quote from the article:

General Clark said his domestic priorities would include health insurance and rolling back parts of Mr. Bush's tax cuts. "I don't see why we can't have health insurance for every single American," he said.

Asked how he would pay for it, General Clark said he was open to some cuts in the budget he is more familiar with — the Pentagon's. "The armed forces are a want machine," he said. "They are structured to develop want."

14. If Clark actually said this, he's just come up more points in my book
Well done. Now this is what we need.

I really really want Dean to take a bolder stance on the military/industrial complex here.

15. Yes, he did say this
I too remember the 25% figure. Kucinich would cut it by 15%, and Clark by 25%. They're together on this issue, against Dean, who said he will not cut Pentagon spending.

I don't fault Dean for his stance. I just happen to agree with Clark and Kucinich over Dean.
