Did anyone notice all of the OIL op-eds in the New York Times today?
I thought this was purely conincidental, but there probably is a strategy behind them. Suprisingly, there were THREE Op-Eds pertaining to oil in the New York Times today.

The first one http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/04/opinion/04TSAL.html">Making Sure Where the Money Goes Where It Is Supposed To seems like it could have been written by a left-wing activist and details how the US is thirsting for oil and always looking for new sources.

The second one details how we should watch out when we do business with oil-producing countries. It also, in a way, highlights the idea that we should be promoting democracy and humanitarian values in Africa if we do conduct in oil-related industries.

The third one If Geology is Destiny, then Russia is in Trouble Highlights the problems of Russia becoming a petrostate - a state almost entirely dependent on oil revenues.

At least the Op-Eds didn't advocate taking over these countries. I think these articles are blowing open the big unknown in American society over how much oil plays a role in American foreign policy. Many citizens don't think of it when they are pumping gas into their cars.

1. There have been really good OP-eds in the Washington Post
as well. Someone wrote about tax cuts for campaign donation strategy that Bush has been pursuing and it struck me as a damn inciteful piece.

2. People need to know these things
Ignorance in any part of America hurts America.

These articles are probably a lead-up to the big story:
The End of the Age of Oil.

The 'End' is near. We either face it down now, or it will come as a thief in the night. The great thing about the 'End' is that it provides many economic opportunities to small entrepenuers. And that is precisely why the big boys don't want us to have any idea of the 'End' -- we might take away their power by using other sources to replace them.
