10. Please don't throw in the towel
Your contributions are valuable. Its not your fault some people do not except certain definitions on what the term "cult" means.

3. I'm very disappointed
You had a lot of important things to say, and I hope that the time comes soon when you can say them.

I just don't get this system at all.

Thanks for trying!

5. you got about a 65% chance of the thread being locked...
on any day about religious issues, so I say go ahead and shoot and take your chances. Of course, I'm no mod so my say doesn't count for much!

6. The DU Lounge is open - just don't pretend it is about Democratic Party
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 02:29 PM by papau
politics or elections.

Go to the lounge and let the world hear your opinion of whatever you like or dislike about anything - including religion.

The GOP has a fun time telling folks that the Democratic Party is anti-God - or at least full of anti-God types - where the reality is that you do not get 50% of the votes from a crowd that 90% believers in God if most of those voting for you are not also believers in God.

The Democratic Party is a big tent - tolerant of all views that are respectful of other folks rights -

and discussions of religion, or the religion of not believing for certain, can be intellectually deep and interesting.

Have at it!

11. Tollerance level plays a role in which party you join.
I have never been with a religious group that was even near 75% one party or the other.

12. Your post doesn't address my question
religion is all over party politics and political realities

not to mention the prayer that opens Congress every day

20. The Religious Right has made certain that it IS about politics ...
and elections.

Religion MUST be talked about because of the roles into which it has been thrust.

16. what would you say about religion?
I love religion and politics. I am very religious in my own life, meditation... ecstatic love, divine compassion and all those beautiful things.

Religion is totally private. Given that, it is a fallacy to presume the public fact is anything but a distortion of the reality that we all face god and death alone. Why is it not OK?

19. I recommend posting it in the Civil Rights etc forum
where it may stand a snowball's chance in hell of surviving. The thread that was started last night (by Pasadena Boy) remained quite civil until this AM when a few posters who can always be counted on to fuck it up arrived.

21. My post was moved to the Editorials boards...
Thank you for finding it a home. Although it is not the revised version I posted later, its still good enough.

Its unfortunate that its such a pain trying to post stuff like this, but I guess that's the price you pay for being a huge community of people with diverse points of view. :)

Price well worth it in my estimation...
