Bush/Steel Tarriffs...?
Can someone explain to me exactly what this means...is this good or bad for U.S. steel companies...?

I haven't really read to much into this but from what I heard this was a stupid decision on the part of BushCo...

Thanks...any info and links will help...

1. Bush prevented from kissing ass
First of all, the US steel industry is struggling to survive in today's international market and BiffCo really really wants the steel industry to love them, so he implemented tariffs to protect steel bidness. The WTO decided he had gone too far to protect them and threatened to officially declare so which would allow partner countries to fine the US in order to balance the cost of the tariffs. By repealing the steel tariffs, Bush is avoiding international humiliation for creating a profoundly unfair system. What will be interesting to see is how BiffCo will court the steel industry and whether or not the cost of this courting will fall to the taxpayers.

Peace,
Teresa

2. Twas an easy decision for Bush
the tariffs have done their job and now US car maufacturers are bellowing about how steel is now at an artificially inflated price due to the tariffs. Big automakers want them lifted and if Bush didn't lift them, the US would get slapped with retaliatory tariffs from Japan to Europe. And these tariffs are aimed straight at Bush's re-election campaign.

He can't lie his way out of this one. He has painted himself into a corner and can't even blame Bill this time. He's damned if he does & damned if doesn't. Either way he looks like the world class fumbler that he apparantly is...... He is campaining (what else?) in Pittsburgh today. Can you imagine the job of begging for money in "steel city" while lifting the steel tariffs?
