As for her areas of expertise, plenty of the Nixon retreads and PNAC hounds are also old cold warriors. The damn administration is some retro festival---they want and need an enemy and don't care if its Soviets or Iraqis.

Bush, being a decidedly uncurious man, doesn't like question, he wants answers. Solid answers, with no hemming and hawing. It's a quality that drew him toward "born again" evangelicism once he "got religion", and something that's easy to disguise as a macho "no nonsense" attitude.

Condi, Rummy, Wolfy, and the rest of the PNAC gallery make a perfect match: they know everything, they have complete confidence in their own analyses and complete contempt for differing ones, and they have a plan which they have every confidence will work.

Absolutely nothing can shatter these peoples' high opinion of themselves. Not being utterly wrong about the strength of the Soviet Union, not terrorist killing thousands and bringing down some of the largest buildings in the world, nothing.

These people are made for each other. problem is, they're not made for the rest of us...

Obviously, you can't hope for MUCH with this admisnistration. But Scowcroft did criticize the Bushies on foreign policy a while back. That means, of course, that Smirk will never pick him. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Personally, I think "Condi" MUST GO!!!

Rice was always considered an inferior imitation of Scowcroft and it was pointed out when Bush nominated her as NSA. She went to Liar's Graduate School by becoming a university provost though, that's one thing she's got a leg up on Scowcroft on.
