Changing the Perception of Democrats and National Security
Edited on Fri Jul-25-03 09:03 AM by Skinner
<snip>

(AP) Nuclear bombs are likely to be used before the end of the decade if the United States doesn't do more to stop their spread, a group that advises Senate Democrats said Wednesday.

One key step would be to begin direct talks with North Korea to negotiate an end to its nuclear program, said the National Security Advisory Group, which includes former top officials of the Clinton administration.

Former Defense Secretary William Perry, the group's chairman, said North Korea could have six to eight nuclear bombs by the end of the year and could have "serial production" next year.

The advisory group also includes former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former national security adviser Sandy Berger, former NATO Supreme Commander Gen. Wesley Clark and former Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. John Shalikashvili.

1. Start by electing Dean
Who has a vision.

We have tried the DLC way and Kerry, Lieberman and Gephardt have proven it doesn't work.

Howard Dean 2004.

2. Isn't Dean former DLC too?
Besdies, he supports all of the DLC's policies, so I can't see how that would help.

Why not elect someone from the House Progressive Caucus, say, Dennis Kucinich?

4. Kucinich would'nt have invaded Afghanistan
which was necessary.

We don't need an "anti-war" president. We need a president who will do what needs to be done for the right reasons.

7. how is Dean different from the DLC? Which policies does he disagree with?
Why not Gephardt then? There are many reasons to support Dean, but if you dislike the DLC's policies, don't forget that Dean's are the same.

3. Start by electing Graham
Since he's been saying these things all along. Plus he has the experience, doesn't start at square one.

5. Clark may announce next month
and would soundly defeat Bush. Worth a look.

6. Talk radio!!! Why won't anyone listen?
We MUST win the battle in talk-radio. We are getting the hell beat out of us on the air and we must take the necessary steps to make it equal again or we will NEVER win the battle of public perception.

8. pomp and pageantry
Image is a large part of perception as the saying goes. Veterans like Cleland, Kerry, or Kerrey are averse to loud firework shows for some reason (and don't even think about putting a whoopee cushion under McCain).

That said, what's up with Perry, Albright, Berger, and Clark? That sounds like an image problem waiting to happen.

9. National security/terrorism was the #1 issue in 2002
That's what I have read. Mostly, it was women who defected to the Republicans over the issue of national security. Wesley Clark has all the credentials to convince the voters that he would keep the ship in good hands.
