Rush's comments on soldiers dying... (UFB!)
Recapped at mahablog:

Even today, after news of the demise of Saddam's sons, I encountered a cognitively challenged person who assumed "lefties" would be saddened by the loss of the Hussein boys. Against the war? You must be pro-Saddam!

Well, folks, let's look at how that great patriot Rush Limbaugh supports our troops.

"Folks, we're getting a daily death update out of Iraq, and we're hearing slogans like, "One a day," and "Our troops are being slaughtered," from the Democrats, as their willing accomplices in the press try to concoct this notion that the casualty rate over there is outrageous and intolerable.

The following statistics come from the Centers for Disease Control website: On a daily basis, on average, 10 Americans die by drowning, and nine Americans die by fire in their homes. 14 Americans die by pedestrian accidents. 27 Americans die in falls. On average, 50 Americans a day are murdered. 118 die in auto accidents, and 25 people die from A.I.D.S. every day, on average. Yesterday, two Americans died in battle in Iraq."

Heart-warming, huh? Rush, who didn't serve in Vietnam because he had a cyst on his butt, is awfully sanguine about other people dying in Iraq.

If you know anyone in the military, be sure to send them a link to Rush's words of support for our troops. People should know who their real friends are.

3. Not just numbers, but numbers to be
plundered and exploited and then cast off when there's nothing left to plunder and exploit. I'm convinced that they would have been laboring mightily on England's behalf during the American Revolution!

2. UFB is right. He is so easy to discredit.
Let's see, there are approximately 230 MILLION people in the US according to latest census figures. There are approximately 140, 000 in Iraq. Seems like, without doing to much math, that is still too many casualties.

The first casualty for this effing invasion (whether it was civilian or military doesn't matter to me) was way, way too many.

24. let's look at the odds.
Using Rush's own figures lets look at the numbers.
230 million Americans in US
140,000 Soldiers in Iraq

For these odds I assumed 1 American killed per day (even though 5 have died in the last 2 days).

A soldier is 13.9 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to a car accident.
A soldier is 33.8 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to murder.
A soldier is 60.7 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to a fall.
A soldier is 65.7 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to AIDS.
A soldier is 118 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to a pedestrian accident.
A soldier is 165.1 times more likely to die in Iraq than an American dieing due to drowning.

I think these numbers speak volumes.

35. Use away
Feel free to get the word out, just correct my spelling errors.

Just some other facts. If people in America were being murdered at the same rate that they are in Iraq, one American would be killed every 45 seconds. That is the same as 1920 people murdered every day.

If 1920 people were getting murdered every day, it would be huge news.

He never learned something called "proportions". 10 Americans out of the entire population of the US vs. 2 soldiers out of the active troops in Iraq. hmmm. Once again he has proven that statistics can be used any way you want.

5. limbaugh and the rest of the right wing cabal
care not about the deaths of american servicemembers because they are dying for the honorable man of integrity george bush. limbaugh and his kind are cowards who hide behind microphones. limbaugh and his kind must stay up late at night to get the fax from karl rove who tells them how to spin the news. The deaths of our servicemembers are not important to george bush who has yet to attend a funeral, although this is another rove calculation. The last thing the gop wants is a picture of bush next to a flag draped coffin. THE LIMBAUGHS AND BUSHS OF THE WORLD HAVE NO DECENCY, HAVE NO COMPASSION, HAVE NO INTEGRITY. I'm a 24 year Navy vet and I dread picking up the paper every day. Conservatives could care less about our dead kids. And its alright with conservatives if we slaughter and destroy innocent iraqis just as long as there ain't any aborting going on. I know there are conservatives on this site. And I know you don't like my assertions about conservatives. Tough fucking shit. Work to get our kids out of iraq. Work to get bush out of the white house. Work to get the truth out of limbaugh. That's what you conservatives don't do.

Nobody on DUs position has changed that I'm aware of. It is the RW who have tried to minimalize the damage (bushit declared the combat essentially over in May, if you will recall). We were in combat in Normandy, friend--we (supposedly) aren't in combat in Baghdad and Fellujah.

Welcome to DU--I think.

15. Gotta disagree my fellow american
Conservatives definitely think that dead american servicemembers are "unimportant." They are just pawns in the rich republicans chess game. They are dying for the great moron who deserted his military unit. And just what the fuck does "severity of the numbers is being exaggerated" mean? Please, if you have never served in the military, hustle down to the army recruiter and tell them you want to go to iraq as soon as you complete basic training. Then you can get killed and we will not exaggerate the severity of your death. limbaugh and bush are morons with a moron agenda. Why do you support the idiots?

7. Sheesh--who really is pro-troops here?
3 months ago, I was protesting the war, which meant I wasn't "supporting the troops (bushit)." At the same time, I was e-mailing like crazy to try to prevent vets benefits from being cut.

Now I want them out; I'm concerned that they are sitting ducks, and it seems to me that my position hasn't changed one iota.

Tell me, who are the real political opportunists?

. . . that "liberals" were "upset" by the deaths of Q&U because "it makes the Republicans look good" (or something to that effect).

as far as I am concerned, this country is in outright civil war. I feel that remarks like that serve no purpose other than to inflame people against someoe like me, an avowed "liberal," with false propaganda.

These deaths are not accidental.

Our troops are being picked off by snipers, RPGs and bombs.

Q: How many AM radio BS personalities die per day because of sniper attacks?

A: None, but if it was 1 per day then I can bet you my bottom dollar that this AH, on the low-brow end of the dial, would be screaming for investigations and protection for himself and his puckering anal cyst from the security of his high-priced his hidy-hole.

17. The numbers
If you can believe Rush’s numbers (and you can’t) there must be more deaths a day in the States. So lets assume that there are 500 deaths per day. If you can believe my numbers( and you can’t) that comes out to 1.8 to the –6 percent. Two dead in Iraq comes out to 1.4 to the –5 percent. Not very good, is it.

18. Let's also not forget...
the number of wounded, some quite severely, coming out of Iraq. Then the picture gets a little uglier. Sure, they may survive but many will live a lifetime with debilitating injuries and at the same time see their veteran benefits cut. The military is also attempting to hide the number of soldiers who are experiencing symptoms of exposure to depleted uranium. That is truly the quiet killer that gets very little attention. The reports I've read state the military used twice as many of those weapons in this war as they did in the Gulf War. According to the veterans administration, over 10,000 have died from being poisoned by these weapons and over 100,000 are disabled from it. I'd like to stick those stats up Rush' cystic ass and see him rotate for a while.

19. Yeah, and exactly ZERO Americans die
on an average DAILY basis from terrorist attacks, and yet that doesn't stop cornholers like Rush and his audience of feebs from gobble-gobbling like turkeys about terroists.

Notice that the majority of these Chicken Littles call in to C-span from West Buttcrack, Kansas (sorry, no offense to Kansas DUers) scared liquid-shit out of their minds that some dark Middle-Easterner is planning to bomb their one grain silo, one blinking-traffic-light "town". As if.

Does the fact that more Americans on average die slipping in the shower than will ever be killed from terroist attacks faze these fear-mongers??

Of course not.

"Hey, this ain't so bad....we only lost 50,000 killed and 300,000 maimed. In a year we lose 50,000 on the highways! We are in Vietnam for a good reason (um, wait, I'll think of it in a minute)"

Just wait. Next they will say we need to keep troops in Iraq and spend more on the military because it would hurt the economy if we withdrew.

THAT was an actual story in Newsweek in the early 1970's to try to justify the continuation of the genocide in Vietnam.

It's only just begun and it will boggle your mind how bad these assholes are and how ghastly the thinking in this country will become.

Hanging up dead bodies like cow carcasses on TV is just the fucking beginning.
