Bill Pryor's nomination comes up for a vote tomorrow in the Senate Judiciary Committee. I urge all PA DUers to e-mail Specter and tell him to oppose this nomination.

ON EDIT: If Specter votes "no", the nomination will be rejected in committee.

Dear Mr. Specter,
Tomorrow the Senate Judiciary Committee, which you are a member of, will vote on the nomination of Bill Pryor, who has been nominated for a circuit judgeship. There are many reasons why you should oppose this nomination. For one thing, Mr. Pryor is rabidly pro-life, calling Roe v. Wade "the worst abomination in the history of constitutional law". He also has had few problems with discrimination based on homosexual orientation, and filed an amicus brief opposing the Supreme Court's ruling in Lawrence vs. Texas. For this reason, the Log Cabin Republicans have opposed his nomination. Finally, he appears to believe that the Americans with Disabilities Act has constitutional problems, arguing in Garrett v. Alabama that parts of the ADA do not apply to state employees. These views are reminiscent of Robert Bork, who you rightly opposed. However, these questionable ideological viewpoints, which I believe to be out of the mainstream of judicial thought, are only part of the reason for opposing Mr. Pryor. He has also pleaded with large corporations for campaign cash, which may bias his views on cases if these companies came before the 11th Circuit. The totality of this evidence shows that Bill Pryor is clearly unfit to be a circuit judge. I respectfully request that you vote in the negative on his nomination during tomorrow's Judiciary Committee hearing.

11. More about Bill Pryor

Alas, he is my attorney general.
He is Catholic, anti-abortion, way right-wing, and a weasel (my personal assesment).
He is one of the founders of RAGA, Repug Attorney Generals' Assoc.
RAGA was formed to raise campaign funds for repug AGs.
He has called corporations, asking for donations, while those same corporations knew he would be involved in cases they would bring in state courts.
Example: I am CEO of a utility, going for a rate increase in the state, and the AG is asking me for a donation. Gee what should I do? Do I want this guy on MY side, or not? No brainer.

My 2 senators are both repugs and support the hometown boy.
For that reason I am contacting Specter to plead with him not to vote for Pryor.
