CSPAN brings up Moore's Corp. Jet...but not Bush's* Enron Jet

- I find it hypocritical that CSPAN pointed out a story about Moore flying in a Times Warner corporate jet on his book tour...but have never mentioned that GWB* flew around in Ken Lay's Enron corporate jet during the 2000 presidential campaign.

- This is just one more example of how the New Media distorts the news so that Republicans come out on top and smelling like a rose.

- Expect this type of double-standard against the Democratic nominee in 2004.

- CSPAN may be subtle about it...but they're no better than any other media that continues to support the Bush* regime.

1. I thought it was just me, but...
I've had this gut feeling that CSPAN tilts a bit towards the right. They seem to have more guests with a conservative viewpoint than those of liberal views.

Ok, maybe I'm crazy. But I've wondered how "balanced" CSPAN really is.

2. They were much more 'balanced' Pre-Bush...
...but they're not stupid about their right wing slant.

- It just bothers me that even CSPAN has joined the other media in supporting Bush's* criminal adminstration.

3. Anytime a caller says that C-SPAN tilts right
the host ALWAYS says, "But we had David Corn (or some "left leaning" intellectual or commentator) on LAST MONTH." OOOOhhhh one not right-winger a month and this they call balanced? How often is someone from the Cato Institute or Heritage Foundation on? How often do they quote from the Moonie owned Washington Times as if it is legitimate news?

Grrrrr.....

:puke:

5. The CSPAN host pointed out an article...
...that suggested that Moore was a 'corporate whore' for flying in a Times Warner jet while he comes off as 'anti-corporation'.

- The implication is 'bad things' from Moore. But they've never made the connection to Bush* flying Enron jets during the 2000 campaign and his direct connection to Enron and Ken Lay.

6. Not that it makes a difference, but wasn't it Smirk's lawyers
who used the Enron jet, not him? I thought it was Baker, et al who used Kenny Boy's jet to file all of those Florida lawsuits. Which is just as bad as Bush Jr being on that plane, IMO.

7. No...it was candidate GWB using Ken Lays corporate jets...
...flying around the US to campaign for president. This WAS an issue in the independent media in 2000...but the powers that be kept it out of the mainstream media...as they did with the rest of Bush's* horrible record.

10. Oh, thanks for clearing that up.
I remember reading the Baker team was on Kenny's jet in the NYT during the recount...didn't know he actually campaigned on it!! Shit.

11. Well, it would be more of an issue for Moore than for pro-corporate Bush
If Moore is attacking corporate America and corporate America is supporting him, it says something, but if Bush is pro-corporation (and that's like saying Jeffery Dahmer was pro-carnivore), then it's not unusual that Bush is flying in a corporate jet.

Of course, the issue that the media is worried about symbolic trivialities like Moore flying in a corporate jet and not about major issues like a presidential candidate (and sitting governor) breaking federal and state campaign finance laws by accepting non-monetary contributions beyond the legal limit (and while the state legislature was in session-- a crime in Texas) while campaigning is much bigger.

One thing that turned me against Moore (and I liked him at first) was watching a ton of those contradictions, though. He has a real way of slanting his side of the story that covers up a lot. In one section of his SWM book he tells about going to Florida during Campaign 2000 and telling Greens that it was okay if they voted for Gore instead of Nader. He's almost explicit that he is pointing out that he wasn't really at all responsible for putting Bush in office (and I don't think he was). He fails to point out that most of his speech was about what was wrong with the Democrats and Gore. He then tells a story of meeting JEB the next morning, and JEB implying to him that HE (JEB) was the person behind inviting Moore to Florida, since it was a state university that had paid his speaking fee. The point of that story was that JEB was a snake using Greens to split the Democrat vote towards Nader. The unspoken point that Moore tried to avoid but made anyway was that Moore was in Florida making his speech because he was PAID to make it, not because he was supporting a candidate or ideal.

Just my own two cents on Moore. To me, a story that he rides a corporate jet to make speeches criticizing corporate America (while being an over-simplification of his message) is pretty much representative of what I've seen. He really is our Rush Limbaugh. But I do agree with your point that CSPAN has felt the pressure to lean right, and has done so, probably just to ease the friction.

8. Much worse was Ken Starr's use of Phillip-Morris' Gulfstream jet ...
... while he was running the Clinton inquisition. The Clinton administration was, meanwhile, tormenting the tobacco industry. Ken Starr was an outside counsel for P-M.

9. What is the problem there?
Who cares if Moore is flying in their jet. Is a private individual not a public servant.
