Why Not Call Anyone Supporting Domestic Spying UNAMERICAN & UNPATRIOTIC
Edited on Tue Dec-20-05 09:09 AM by cryingshame
Illegally spying on American citizens is not what our founding fathers held acceptable.

It's not what our troops have died defending our country for.

It's not what our troops are fighting for in Iraq.

At this point, elected Democrats should start labeling Junior as Un american and Unpatriotic. Unlike the GOP, they'd have the Truth on their side.

1. What you say makes sense.
Bush's actions are explicitly un-American, and it's not hard to see. The domestic spying crime is the best example so far. The law is crystal clear. The 4th Amendment is crystal clear. The president says he is above both the law and the Constitution. The Constitution itself clearly says he is not. The arguments made by his toadies are specious and absurd, unable to survive the most superficial analysis.

Have any prominent Republicans outside the White House sided with the president yet (not brain-dead Fox commentators, I mean Republican leaders or officials)? Or is it still "Democrats oppose, Republicans wait and see"? Maybe there is some hope in that.

Our president is a criminal. There is no longer any doubt.

2. while I personally agree that it is, the whole un'Murikan name calling
thing really needs to stop.

In a republic, everyone from every walk of life has a voice, in theory, at least. What needs to stop is the acceptance of the usage of that phrase in the context of a political debate.

Only after someone has been tried and convicted of heinous crimes should that label be applied, and at that point applied sparingly.

Just my two cents. ;-)

4. I respectfully disagree, Ixion. The name calling
must continue, unfortunately, but this time we Democrats must do the name calling.

We MUST stop being polite to these people and START branding these traitors as the UnAmerican, anti-rights fascists that they are.

Being polite has gotten us nothing and nowhere!

7. I'm not saying be polite. I'm saying speak the truth, rather than
lower the conversation to their reptillian level.

A name-calling match leads nowhere.

But of course I respect your right to disagree. :hi:

6. IMO, Name Calling Implies A Lack Of Substance Or Intentionally Misleading
What the POTUS has done is, in the most literal sense, UnAmerican.

9. I don't disagree with you
what I disagree with is lowering the level of discourse this level.

Look, when an argument reaches this point:

"F* U"
"No, F* U"

Then the conversation is pretty much over.

What needs to happen, IMO, is simply speaking the truth. That speaks volumes for itself.

8. I don't know
I think most of shrubbies base totally lacks empathy.
They don't realize how bad things are until it affects them personally.

A few well placed
"If you don't like the freedoms in our country why don't you leave"
or "why do you hate America" quotes thrown back at them might just be the teaching tool that they need.

10. while it might be tempting
I guarantee you it will not help to resolve the current situation, and in fact will only make it worse.

3. I'm with you 100%
I've been calling the little idiot, and all his toadies, UNAMERICAN/ANTIAMERICAN for a few years now.

What else can you possibly call an administration that clearly does NOT believe in the principles and ideals that this country was founded on?

At every turn, they do and say every thing possible to undercut and diminish our Constitution and Bill of Rights, and I simply refuse to believe that its anything but deliberate.
