So when is the IMPEACH NOW March on Washington???
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 08:35 PM by Seabiscuit
It worked against Nixon after the "Saturday Night Massacre" (which inspired the House Judiciary Committee to convene impeachment proceedings) and it could work again, if only millions upon millions got up off their computers and hit the pavement in D.C. running with banners and signs galore.

How about it? Let's not limit our "activism" to posting on websites like DU.

68. "Chimpeachment" is funny
but I'm not sure that we should use it. We shouldn't be trying to be funny. We don't want to sound like John Stewart (not that I don't like John Stewart) or an SNL sketch. We want to be taken seriously. "Chimpeachment" sounds frivilous.

10. Well, that was the essence of my question. If we
can get it organized on DU we could spread it around the 'net and have one hell of a demonstration in the early days of the new year.

I'd LOVE to send shockwaves through Washington and the MSM through sheer numbers of outraged citizens surrounding the White House and the Congressional building screaming bloody murder.

82. Night of the State of the Union address!

Make your plans now to participate in drowning out Bush's lies:

1) On the night of Bush’s State of the Union address: In large cities and small towns all across the country - join in rallies to make the demand that "Bush Step Down" the news & message of the day. At 9pm EST - just as Bush starts to speak we will bring on the noise and drown out his address - bring your voice, and make a commitment to the world that not another year will be lived under this criminal regime.

2) Demonstrate the following Saturday in Washington DC to deliver the people's verdict on Bush’s criminal regime - "Bush Step down and take your program with you!" Contact your local chapter to purchase your plane or bus ticket now.

104. Saving the country doesn't come at your convenience
I appreciate your wanting the protest to be on a weekend, but it would actually better mid-week, when congressional leaders would be in town, traffic would get snarled, hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country would be out of work to join in. In fact, it should actually be part of a combined work stoppage/march on DC. Also, you'll get very little news coverage (if any) on the weekend. Any coverage you do get will be largely ignored because Americans don't watch much news on weekends.

I'm having surgery in january!

Not enough time to organize for January, I'm afraid. We have to make this big. The last one was on a weekend, well actually the whole weekend. But DU didn't seem to happy with the organizations that planned the protest. What organization could pull off heading up this effort without making it their agenda, a real team effort with a huge turnout?
Decent weather would increase turnout. When does it stay above freezing in DC?

48. The only way another march on
Washington will work is if it's held during the week and shuts down the government. Otherwise, you have another weekend gathering on the Mall that gets NO media coverage and the criminals are out of town for the weekend.

The Capitol and the White House need to be surrounded and SHUT DOWN. That will get media attention.

55. That's why January 20 would be the perfect date...
Not just the symbolism of protesting Bush as he's delivering his State of the Union address, but because Bush and Congress are all required to be there that day.

Any other day, especially on a weekend, and Bush, Cheney, et. al. and numerous reps and senators in Congress could be out of town.

So, yeah... let's surround the White House and surround the Capitol Building as Bush is delivering his address, and shout him down and then SHUT IT DOWN!

54. NEVER! Let's protest everywhere.
We need to stop making people go to DC. It's time we protest in every city across the country. Many can't afford to always be running to DC, but can afford to protest in the town/city they are currently in. If we have the kind of massive protests we need we could/should fill up every city of any size across the country. March on the Media if we have to. The state capitols, major cities even smaller towns. You have to remember our party is the party of po' people.

59. That was pretty much my suggestion - if people can't make it to D.C.
they could protest in their state capitols - or, as you mentioned, in their local cities/home towns. Shut down every Fox outlet in the country, for instance. March on Jerry Falwell. Surround his church. Don't let him out. Same with Rush Limbaugh. Surround the radio station where he broadcasts. Don't let either of them out for days.

86. Jan. 20, 2006 is getting the most votes - see:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=5643251&mesg_id=5643251

That's the date of the State of the Union Address. Bush can't run off to Camp Pendleton or Crawford on that day. It's the one day of the year he's absolutely required by law to be in D.C. to address Congress.

Then again, when did Chimpy ever take the law seriously?

Thanks for your participation!

92. Indeed. Impeach. Then prosecute. Then imprison for life.
He's guilty of hundreds if not thousands if not tens of thousands of violations of FISA. Each violation is subject to imprisonment for up to 5 years. He could be sentenced to thousands of years.
