I did and am getting responses from others here that have either bought one or more or who are considering it. Most, like me, don't really like the idea of having a gun in the house, but now feel it may be necessary.

2. Noooooo......
But I moved to the UK last month primarily because of Bush and what he has done to the US. I will never forgive the bastard for ruining the country.........it will never be the same.

4. two reasons good reasons for my purchase.
a) the president is at war with America
b) A former client is insane and threated to kill my spousette.

Even took classes in safety, how to shoot, etc. On the other hand, it is locked and hidden most of the time.

15. I don't consider it doom and gloom.
This is a discussion forum. Maybe it is you who has interpreted the post incorrectly - I don't know. Either way... While I don't agree with the premise of the post, I don't see any reason to discourage discussion.

8. No, absolutely not
First, I see no reason to.

Second, if there really WAS reason to there is not much I can do with a gun against tanks in the street, which is what some folks seem to be envisioning.

But I've heard this stuff for 30 years. Revolution? As John Lennon said, "We'd all love to see the plan."

13. No. Have thought about it -- not for the reasons you're saying though.
I've thought about it for security, but not because of the government. The truth of the matter is that no amount of guns are going to do you any good against the government's planes, tanks, high-caliber heavy weapons, missiles... You get the point. However, I have thought about one to protect my family if someone broke in or IF there was ever civil disorder due to circumstances NOT connected with the government. I really hope people don't think they would stand a chance against the US military might, because if they do they really should get a clue. Just my two cents. This should be an interesting thread though.

20. Not armed to fight the military might,
I agree with you on that.

I'm armed to protect myself against intruders. With the economy the way it is, thanks to Bush, I fear more home burglaries. I'm disabled and I live alone in a fairly nice neighborhood. I would be an easy target.

21. I am not stupid enough to think I could defeat the military
Although, a certain group without tanks, command centers, uniforms, MRE's Body armour, Humvees etc. seems to be doing a pretty good job. I'm thinking more like a big natural disaster as we have seen how well the Buhists hae done.

14. Not because of the shrub... but because the country is becoming
less stable and because the rightwing extremists are becoming more and more aggressive as they are exposed for the labor hating, elitist pigs that they are.

We were watching "Labor's Turning Point" last night (1934 Teamsters strike) and all commented that things could easily go that way again when you consider everything the Repukes and their symps have done to this country over the past thirty years...

18. I live next to a Marine base
Watching the Blackhawk helicopters flying over my house or hearing the booms of the explosions from one their exercises reminds me of one important fact: they've got a lot more bullets than I do, and in a shooting match they're probably a lot more competent at putting them where they want them to go (i.e., in my body).

As far as protecting myself and my wife from the local nutcases, well, out here in the desert it's hard to tell the crazies from the no-so-crazies.

But I have thought about it (getting a gun) occasionally lately, and it's something that never crossed my mind before * came into power.

22. Self defense is a personal problem and the choice of tools is yours.
If you believe you are at risk to criminal assault, then you should consider purchasing a firearm.

IMO, handguns are the most effective-efficient firearm for self-defense and the choice of professionals like law-enforcement officers and career criminals.

If you do obtain a firearm, please obtain proper training and make certain you understand the laws of your community and state.
