Marines question for somebody
Friends nephew has been called up for a fourth tour in Iraq, not a combat unit. His term of service is up in April, will they let him come home then? My friends understanding is that Marines differ from Guard and Army in that regard, and they will let him finish and come home in April. Is that true?

4. It is about the same contract... they all say
That you leave at the descrestion of the service, so they do not have to let you go.

5. The way things look...
If Bushco has its way, your friend's nephew is gonna be there forever.

I would think (don't know) that if your term is up, you're no longer an employee of the armed forces, which should therefore mean that they can go back home.

Best of luck to your friend's nephew!

6. The Marines I know have been sent home and discharged . . .
when their time was up. Very few Marines are being held over (some are, and the Corps certainly MAY hold them over, but as of yet only a few MOS are being stop-lossed).

Give that Marine a big Semper Fi for me and tell him I said we appreciate what he is doing, even if we think his CinC is an asshat (you can use that last clause at your discretion).

7. Very high probability he'll be out in April.
Only slightly less probability if he is EOD or Arabic translator or MI etc., so far.

8. The bigger problem she is going to run into
Is that he will re-up when offered bonuses or that he will feel guilty because his friends and fellow Marines are left behind.
If she can make him understand to "Just say no", chances are he will come home.
However, if the unit that he is assigned to is held over in Iraq past April, then he will be as well. They won't let him come home apart from his unit.

9. I had a similar question.
My son is stationed in Japan until August of next year and there's been talk that some of them will be sent to Iraq (his MOS is computers.) I was told by former Marines that he probably wouldn't even be sent to Iraq if it would be for less than seven months. But if your nephew is being sent now with less than five months on his contract, my information must be incorrect.

There's a new group for military families. You might post your question there, too. Good luck and thanks to your nephew for his service! I wish him the best! :hi:
