What would happen if * suddenly switched parties?

If he left the GOP, became a Democrat, and therefore was no longer above the law, would his base still pledge their souls to him without question? Would the "liberal media" still bend over backwards to kiss his ass and make him look good? Would he still be able to get away with ANYTHING AT ALL, no matter what?
