16. Get racist, right wing pamphlets on your car window see how you feel
Right in your own driveway. I felt that way about the second amendment before and still do. Probably the only surface agreement I have with these people. I have talked with these types and have heard what they would like to do. It bubbles beneath the surface, there are people who take Cheney, Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter literally and are willing to take it one more step. This is cheap talk but it certainly does not scare me.

35. let me translate that for you out of freeperspeak:
"my waitress niece who lives in LA told me that movies need to "push the edge," "get edgy," not like the stuff for mass consumption like LOTR, or other big ones. She can't get a job, so the studios suck."

let's see, King Kong, Chronicles of Narnia...yeah, those are revolutionary stories, ain't they? brand spanking new stuff. cutting edge story telling (of course, I'm going to see them, but I think I know the plot already)

36. Ditto. Just try pushing something less than totally "safe" in Hollywood.
Studios are supremely risk-adverse. That's because failures get people fired.

11. LMAO at this one:
To: Jim Noble
"To even entertain, fleetingly, the idea that this film will survive its encounter with reality, much less make money, is a manifestation of serious mental illness."
I disagree. The left will make sure it makes money just so more films like this make it out. Remember when churches rented out entire theaters so their congregation could all go see The Passion? How much you want to bet the activists do that on the coasts, make this the "In" thing to do. I bet they even try to turn it into a cult classic for them, like The Rocky Horror Picture Show was to normal people. This is too close to the heart of their agenda to let it slip into obscurity.

So, to this Freep, cross-dressing is "normal," while gay cowboys aren't? :wtf:

I'm not judging cross-dressing or gay cowboys - I'm just TOTALLY confused by why, in this Freep's mind, that a flick about cross-dressing and sex parties is "normal" in his world, but a film about the love between two male cowboys is not.

Anyone wanna take a stab at that?

"Possibly Roger has more interest in gays than we are giving him credit for. If he can't be trusted to give good reviews, maybe it's time to give him and his sponsors a thumbs down."

Yeah, let's boycott that homo-lover Roger Ebert's "sponsors" for giving this homo movie a positive review! That'll show Homo-Hollywood! In fact let's just de-legalize homosexuals! Hyuk hyuk!

Last year, Ebert gave "Michael Moore Hates America" a thumbs up, and they fawned over him and wanted to have his children, or at least blow him. But only give him hetero guy-on guy blow jobs.

17. The Colbert Report did an HYSTERICAL review of the film last night
It was priceless! He urged all of his "fans" to see it (though he had not seen it yet) because it was a western, with good family values, and a film they'd be talking about all the way home!

You'd think these advocates of smaller government, less regulation and support for private business would get the idea that they can vote with their wallets if they do not like the subject matter. Instead, they have to get all nasty, mean and churlish about it. You know the old saw about the fine line between love and hate...the ones who are the meanest probably are in denial about something or other, a la Jim West!

I think you're absolutely right in your analysis.

BTW, is Ang Lee gay? Why did he do this?

------------------------------------------------------

I have never understood this aspect of conservative worldview: they seem to think that a person should only support things that he or she wants to do. Ang Lee makes a movie about gay people, therefore Ang Lee must be gay. My mother is exactly the same way: she once accused me of wanting to marry another man because I support the right of homosexuals to marry.

Edited for clarification.

29. It's not just with homosexuality
My fundie cousin accused me of trying to convert him to Islam when I tried to explain to him how Islam is an Abramic faith (which he didn't buy cause it's not in the bible), despite the fact that I had previously gone on a long tirade about my atheism. They think that if you defend someone in a particular group, or even say something remotely positive or even neutral, then you must be a card-carrying member of that group. There's just no middle ground with them.

BTW, I have another cousin who is married to a Pakistani man, and he came very close to accusing the two of them of being terrorists. Nice family values there.

Why do homos have to sully everything, even the legend of the great american cowboy?

Lets see what happens, and if I remember correctly the gay depiction of Alexander the Great that Oliver Stone did didnt go down with the public and the film flopped. When it was released in Europe the homo-erotic scenes were omitted.

37. I've seen it, I was a projectionist at the Denver Film Fest
Ang Lee came on the last night and premiered it, after the film he did a half hour interview onstage. I knew it would drive the freeps crazy, I am actually expecting fundie protests at theaters. As far as the movie is concerned, the performances are incredible, and brave. Personally I thought the movie was a little slow, but I'm a sci-fi/fantasy/action junkie so take that with a grain of salt. The cinematography was amazing and I'm expecting Heath Ledger to get an Oscar nod. Go see it. It's worth it just for the performances. Bring your hankies this is definitely a 3 hankie flick!
