Poll question: Should Tookie Williams be spared?
Honestly, I haven't made up my mind on this yet.

4. This is the State that executed Caryl Chessman. . .
after 9 stays, when his guilt was very much in doubt.

Chessman was an accomplished author who saw two of the four books he wrote in prison turned to films, and was recognized internationally as a premiere authority on the failings of the death penalty.

The governor in those days, Edmund G. 'Pat' Brown, was one of the most liberal in the State's history.

Does Mr Williams deserve mercy? All men do. Will he receive it? I'll be amazed if he's spared. . . but I know very little beyond the basics of his story. Perhaps there are surprises in store within the criminal justice system.

7. Yes. Because I'm against the death penalty.
Coming from Texas, where TDC has put many to death--but no millionaires. And The Annals of Texas Murder show that many a killer got off simply because he (or she) could afford a good lawyer.

8. I cannot support capital punishment in any case
1) A civilized nation does not seek revenge on criminals
2) Our justice system is not infallible. Mistakes have been made as to the guilt or innocence of the incarcerated.
