My friend's daughter stuck in Iraq
My good friend's daughter, who has been in Iraq for a year - a year in which her 5 month old became a year and a half - was supposed to leave Iraq several days ago. My friend has been desperate to hear news that her daughter is finally out of Fallujah and in Kuwait as the unit prepares for the rest of the trip home. Every day it hasn't happened is agony.
I heard today from her that unless they left camp by morning the flight home was going to be delayed for two or three weeks, and the chances of them getting the flight was slim. This flight, by the way, was scheduled at first for other troops to come home for leave, but they were screwed and their plane was made available for this girl's unit. So basically we had two groups of troops for one plane and everyone wanted on.

Well, as it turns out she won't be coming home Saturday as planned, it will be another few weeks. The other troops were also royally screwed and no one in either of those units will see their families for the holidays. How did this happen you ask? When her unit was told of their date of departure from the paradise that is Fallujah, no one ordered a goddam flight for them!!! That's why the other soldiers on leave got bumped and that's why they'll all be having Turkey MREs for Christmas.

I'd like some warmongering Bush lover tell me now how much this administration SUPPORTS THE TROOPS!!!! I'm so pissed that tonight there are quite a number of heartbroken families and many very disappointed soldiers who are stranded by the "repug-only-supported" U.S. Army because of a stupid fuckup, and yet somehow we Democrats are accused of not "supporting the troops." The repugs have hijacked the military as their baby, yet they can't move a few hundred soldiers on the day when they tell them they're going HOME.

This small episode is but a small example of the buzzardfuck that is Iraq.

2. WHAT IS THIS???
Dear Condi is flying all over the world in a huge plane every day!
Stop this crap now! Call someone, call your governor, call your rep, and senator, call everyone you know in the military, call your minister, call anyone who has a voice to the public and any form of government! Clog the lines to the White House and congress!
A $20 phone card at Costco will give anyone hundreds of minutes to give to these calls and stay on hold as long as possible!

3. :-/ I wish her a safe return
If we had an actual media, stories like this would spread like wildfire.
While we wait for said media to be born, I'll pray for her safe return.

5. I thought the same thing.
It seems like their M.O., but who knows what's the real deal there? It's just so chaotic there in so many ways, but ordering a flight doesn't seem to be like a real tough job to handle. Just saying...
