40. Well, I like Hilary
but don't think she is electable and the other women don't have the visibility.

So I was looking at a "right now" scenario. Who do I see as electable now.

If we're talking five or ten years from now, then these women might still be on the scene. I'd say all of them are capable. And more will be coming along.

13. Start with Sheila Jackson Lee's hair-do...
Add Diane Feinstein's steeliness, Hillary's brains, Barb Mikulski's enjoyment of a fight, SJLee's heart and a dash of Captain Janeway, and you've got a great president!

Actually, I think Feinstein's the most presidential of them all. She's got just the right amount of the 'fuck off' attitude that you need to be a good president.

16. Senator Mary Landrieu...and I think she'd win
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 08:53 PM by ...of J.Temperance
She's a Mainstream Democrat, sure she might have trouble in the South, but she'd play well in the Mid-West and in the Mountain states, she'd have 90% of the Democratic vote *, she could win Independents and Rockefeller Republicans. You have to expand the base to win, because the solid Democratic vote is going to vote for you anyway at the end of the day. So you need to reach out and get other votes.

Senator Landrieu is actually far more Mainstream than she's allowed to be in Louisiana. I know this.

*The 10% left would be the 100% people, who HAVE to agree 100% or they threaten to vote Third Party, and they usually do. So I don't count them.

I don't think any of the above choices in the original post could win, to be honest.

57. Actually, she'd have more trouble in the mid-West than the South.
The mid-West is more deeply red than the South. I'm tired of the South being characterized as "the worst" when it's not.

Besides, Mary's FROM the South.

17. I'd be looking at
Barbara Boxer..

"Barbara Boxer response to Bush's speech"
"Today, President Bush delivered what was billed as a major address on Iraq. Instead, unfortunately, it was just more of the same "stay the course" rhetoric, moving us no closer to a resolution of the conflict.

We've all been waiting for many months for President Bush to come clean with the American people about the war in Iraq. But clearly, the President still fails to see and confront the truth:

President Bush refuses to acknowledge that the Iraq war has nothing to do with the 9/11 attack on our country by al Qaeda, and it has diverted us from our appropriate response to that attack which was to go into Afghanistan and hunt Osama bin Laden.

He refuses to acknowledge the fact that our long term presence in Iraq is fueling the very insurgency that he vows to end.

President Bush refuses to acknowledge that any mistakes were made and that this war was based on false pretenses.

He ignores the tremendous financial burden on our citizens, and he completely ignores the thousands of wounded that need to hear that they will not be forgotten and that they will receive the care they need."

20. Jennifer Granholm - Oh, Darn!
She's cute. She's moderate. She's governor of Michigan. She should be able to get the Northern and Rust Belt states and maybe even some of the Southern states. Unfortunately, she's Canadian. But it wouldn't it be funny if they "amended for Arnold" and Granholm ended up running?

But anyway, don't forget Kathleen Sebelius or Janet Napolitano. Lady governors (Kansas and Arizona, respectively) and recently named by Time Magazine to be among the nation's five top governors. Now we all know Kansas is insanely red, so if Sebelius can win there, she stands a good chance of winning back states that haven't gone blue in a while.

But Merkins ain't gonna put a lesbian in the WH any quicker than they're gonna put in a black woman. :eyes:

From the list, Feinstein is the most electable. I can easily see her as a VP candidate in '08.

47. The only one on that list who is capable of doing the job is Hillary.
I'm not sure why so many on DU dislike her, but if you look strictly at experience, intelligence, and ability to articulate, she's the only choice.

Having said that, I don't think Hillary can win...either the nomination or the General Election. Unfortunately she brings out only the best and worst in people, and there is no middle ground.
