was on with him. they were discussing the girl in new york (i don't know if she disappeared or she was murdered). she was working as an exotic dancer. o'reilly said "she had a college degree, she's 21 and attractive, she could have easily gotten a job making $50,000 a year". he lives in a fantasy world. do you know how many attractive college educated young women in new york are looking for a job? i lived there most of my life -- there is plenty of competition and working as an exotic dancer is not the worst thing in the world. the money is great and some of those dancers are working on their masters, pHd's, some are paying for law school.

he just doesn't get it.

1. Not only does he not get it...
he assumes that everyone chooses the path(s) that he would have them go.

Perhaps she enjoyed being an exotic dancer. Used to be you could do what you wanted in the USA.

2. Everyone with a high salary
thinks jobs are out there for people, if only they would be willing to take them. Not just jobs, but good paying jobs as well!

Those of us living in the real world (either looking for a job or having recently looked for a job) know otherwise. I got into a discussion with a friend's relative over Turkeyday about this same topic. He, as an entrepeneur, had made a comfortable living and just couldn't grasp the idea that there are able-bodied, willing, skilled workers out there dying to get a job or one that can pay the bills.

It was a friendly discussion however, of course I was at my friend's family gathering and I definitely did not want to make a scene, even if I knew my friend would have my back. He bitches about his family all the time :D

3. I dated a stripper before I met my wife.
She was a college student who worked 3-4 nights per week and made considerably more than $50K a year. O'Reilly is a sanctimonious prick.

4. well i must admit that i did something similar. back in 1970 i
was an unemployed single mother. my ex was playing his games of not sending child support. i answered an ad in the Village Voice for a barmaid. i worked 3 nights a week, made a ton of money, paid off my bills and that's how i know that many women are doing to make money for school. one was in law school, another one was working on her pHd, etc. and we was very protected. i drove my car to work -- parked outside, but the girls who didn't have cars -- the owner drove them home every night. and i met my 2nd husband who i've been with for 35 years. he was working a night shift and would stop in with his co-workers for a beer and the rest is history.

5. These young women are not a lot different from professional
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 09:25 PM by flamin lib
athletes. They work hard to maintain their fitness, have a limited career life, and make a bunch of money. The smart ones hire a CPA and stash the $200,000 or so they make in smart investments. The big difference is that the club owners CHARGE THEM MONEY TO PERFORM! They have to perform a minimum number of hours and if they miss a shift they never get work at that club again.

I'm far over 50 years and have changed diapers on a body older than most of these women. Don't frequent the clubs myself, but in a previous lifetime was required to entertain out of town guests who enjoyed the trade. I got to know a couple of adult entertainers and at one time tried to get them to organize--the clubs wouldn't sell too many $7 beers if they weren't there. Every one of them told me that if they went on strike some bimbo who only wanted to stick powder up their nose would happily cross the line.

I don't look down on these women, I feel sorry for the farts that frequent the clubs and think the girls really like them.

8. She had a job as a dancer in the theater.
New York is very expensive. So she moonlighted. She seems to have been a lovely person.

7. He's stupid
I'm assuming she had a BA. Those things aren't too helpful anymore. She was probably putting herself through graduate school so she could find a more stable job later. I hate Bill O'Reilly. He's on my enemies list.

9. Those two idiots...
... have no reason to talk about anyone, or anything for that matter. Both of them give nothing but opinions, and we ALL know what opinions are like...

I give neither of them the time of day, because to be honest, I don't think either of them have anything at all intelligent to say.

Thanks for the voice... :headbang:

11. Wow Bill, 50K in NYC! Hold me back! I'm going!
If I lived in NYC and made 50K/yr, I'd be looking for a side job as a dancer to make ends meet! (Even though nobody would pay to look at an old out of shape guy with graying hair dance...)

13. O'Reilly should be ashamed
That young woman was the daughter of one of my daughter's "instructor family" at OSU - Ms. Woods had studied dancing for a very long time and evidently dreamed of doing just that on the Broadway stage. NYC is a very expensive place to live and train w/a dream. OMG, she was so young, and it really hurts me that throughout this thread this lovely lady has no name - her name is Catherine Woods, daughter of Dr. Jon Woods, Director of the OSU Marching Band and wife Donna. He's guided so many young musicians and allowed and supported his daughter to follow her heart and dreams....my heart just aches for this family!

a bit on o'reilly. i'm sure she was a wonderful young girl.

o'reilly not only mentioned her but natalee holloway and a brazilian girl -- said they all did stupid things. almost made it sound like "they asked for it". i wonder if he has grandaughters. you never know if what you say is going to come back and "bite you in the ass".

in jersey city which runs him $850 a month and he can't make ends meet. i don't know how much a studio in new york runs now. when i lived there it was about $1500.00 month. that was 16 years ago.
