Protestors demand WalMart put CHRIST back in Christmas
The small city near where I live. Very red. Very Christian....well, nominally Christian.

WalMart basically brushes them off, suggesting they don't cow-tow to the Christians anymore since they've started opening stores in China. Maybe they'll celebrate the Chinese New Year instead....moneywhores.

http://www.statesville.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=SRL/MGArticle/SRL_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1128768376848&path=%21frontpage

Of the huge crowd at Wal-Mart on Saturday morning, about 20 came not to shop but to protest.

“Wal-Mart has been eliminating any word of ‘Christmas,’ ” said demonstration organizer John Thomas. “It’s all ‘Happy holidays.’ ”

They stood near Applebee’s after being asked to move from the store’s parking lot, Thomas said.

5. To do that, they'd have to close down.
Not much CHRISTmas spirit in sending American jobs to third world countries, paying slave wages, and cozying up to totalitarian regimes so they can save a buck or two.

8. Why don't non-Christians start protesting, too?
I'm so sick of these Christopath morons. Why don't we non-Christians start picketing churches? Especially, we should start picketing churches that try to influence politics. We can protest stores that insist upon telling their customers "Merry Christmas" when they don't celebrate it.

13. Really old-time religion.... Mithra!
I demand that all those Xian whackjobs put the Mithra back in Christmas!
- - - -
Have you ever wondered why December 25th was chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ?   If the accounts in the Bible are correct, the time of Jesus birth would have been closer to mid-summer, for this is when shepherds would have been "tending their flocks in the field" and the new lambs were born. Strange enough there is an ancient pagan religion, Mithraism, which dates back over 2,800 years that also celebrated the birth of their "savior" on that date.   Many elements in the story of Jesus' life and birth are either coincidental or borrowings

Some Similarities Between Mithraism and Christianity  are:
Virgin birth
Twelve followers
Killing and resurrection
Miracles
Birthdate on December 25
Morality
Mankind's savior
Known as the Light of the world

18. I totally love this. Thank you. There were many cultures that practiced
sacrifice, and it was often the male consort of the reigning woman of the society. He would be chosen to sit by her side all year, knowing his head was already in the noose. In later times, the sacrifice was minimalized to blood letting, etc, but the whole thing about sacrifice was everywhere. The christians act like it was their idea, alone.

All my life I felt a little crazy because I was the only person I knew who didn't think the crap they spewed in churchschool could possibly be true. How nuts do you have to be to believe that a guy lived in the belly of a whale for 900 years? They lock people up for less.

14. Where would Jesus shop??
All this frenetic shopping has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus.

Christmas has devolved into a very secular holiday and Walmart is on the bottom line of that.

THose who demand that Christ be put back in Christmas should be working in homeless shelters or convelescent hospitals not protesting Walmart.

then I'll pay attention.
:boring:

My mom's a pretty liberal Methodist, and I've told her that people like her have GOT to reclaim their religion from the nutbags. Or call themselves something else.

20. Stupid Fundies
Not everyone in this country is a Christian. That is why people say "Happy Holidays". But the fundies just have to have everything *their* way, don't they? They can't accept the fact that they are no longer the only game in town.

December 8 Feast of the Immaculate Conception (Roman Catholic)
December 25 Christmas (Roman Catholic, Protestant, Eastern and Greek
December 26 First Day of Hanukkah (Jewish)
December 26 - January 2 Kwanzaa

January 1 New Year’s Day
January 2 Eighth Day of Hanukkah (Jewish)
January 5 Guru Gobind Singh’s Birth (Sikh)
January 6 Feast of the Epiphany (Roman Catholic, Eastern, Greek and Russian Orthodox)
January 6 Christmas (Armenian)
January 6 Feast of the Epiphany (Christian)
January 7 Christmas Russian Orthodox
January 10 -13 Feast of Sacrifice (Eid of Adha) (Islamic)
January 14 Maha Shivaratri (Hindu)

Are the Wal-Mart greeters supposed to change their greeting every day?
