Boston Tea Party In Ohio: No Taxation W/o Representation
Here is a suggestion for the state of Ohio. Start a movement with petitions. Have people sign a pledge saying that because their votes are no longer being counted, they are now being taxed without representation, which is wrong. Therefore, they will no longer pay state taxes UNTIL the state legislature does something toe correct the problem which exists in Ohio.

This will generate tremendous immediate media attention, even before any taxes are not paid. Get enough signatures and you will get national attention. Have the organisers dress as American patriots.

1. WOW!!!
This is an EXCELLENT idea!

The beauty of it is that people will only be threatening not to pay taxes in future, which means at present they have not broken any laws and cannot be accused of such.

The concept of activists dressing in public in 1776-style garb is also a touch of genius! Lots of media attention there -- and it's an action that could catch on in other states, as well!

Great thinking! :applause:

2. I can tell you that
the state tax people here in Ohio are quite humorless and very annoying when they think you may have forgotten to pay your taxes, at least the state sales tax for a business. However if enough people threaten to stop paying unless something is done with the way our votes are tabulated, they might just take notice. But I expect they will threaten with penalties and late fees and such.

4. You'll need proof that their votes aren't being counted first...

Not evidence of innacuracies and malfunctions, but real proof that their votes aren't being counted.

I haven't seen that yet.

That aside, it won't work. Most cities have an income tax voted on by residents that's paid by workers (who may or may not live in the city). It's been challenged before right here in Ohio and the practice has stood.

5. It raised consciousness in Colonial America. Give it a try.

This is, after all, a consciousness raising execercise, not an effort to starve the government out of existence. Current efforts at getting media attention are ammounting to just about zip. I think this one might work. It would be VERY easy to do. Grassroots people with pen and paper could start it going. I am going to base my next Grand Theft Election Ohio cartoon strip on the idea.

And anyone who can not see the flying pigs over Ohio, needs to gets his eyes checked. (Click on the mysteries of E-voting in the link below) Remember, gross incompetence voters encountered in this election and in 2004 is ALSO the fault of the state and subtracts from the voters right to have his or her voice represented in government.
