Why should I enlist? (hypothetical)
I may have no job to live on because of offshoring or whatever, but why should I?

I see benefits for veterans cut.
I see aid for veterans cut.
I see what our political leaders are doing and I don't like it.
I see what our corporate leaders are doing and I don't like it.
I see people dying for what is increasingly proven a lie (and if it had been the truth, even I would have enlisted.)

We are a community. Always have been, no matter how often they try to tell or prove us otherwise. If the community leaders do nothing for the community, then why should I do damn diddle either?

And THAT, my friends, is precisely why poll and support numbers continue to plummet. The people may have been overly taught by our government about self-importance being better than the community, but when the people see that just due benefits and aid from the government to those who have served to protect it are taken away, that would be enough to keep all but the truly feeble from enlisting.

Sorry Bush. You and your lot are caught by creatures of your own making. If you have a problem with Americans not being "patriotic" enough, it is your own fault. Period. Clinton didn't do it. Reagan did. Poppy did. And you did it most of all, Junior.

So, Bush, if you want your popularity to go back up (and enlistment numbers too), you're going to have to bring back to jobs, standard of living, and REASON TO SUPPORT THIS COUNTRY. Until then, all the numbers will continue to go down like a skier on a slope. For we all know that while individuality and self-importance have a place, so does community. And more and more people are beginning to see that. Even if they don't like Democrats and never will.

2. But when the people see THAT as a lie,
are they not enlisting out of self-preservation or out of "civil disobedience"?

Or both?

I think it's both, but I think it's increasingly the latter. By leaps aned bounds.

3. Both.
When the army has to keep lowering standards to find new fodder, it might indicate people are wising up and not buying the lies. Most folks actually want to live.

And some parents and young people won't put up with serving under the current regime in America. I know several very bright and industrious young people who had planned on enlisting until BUSHCO seized power. They feel they can better serve being outside the established power right now. A couple plan on enlisting when we finally get the criminal cabal out.
