How many Heroes have the Conservatives lost?
We lost:

Martin Luther King
JFK
RFK
Paul Wellstone
Ron Brown
And countless others

Just curious, how many movers and shakers of the RW have been murdered by 'lone gunmen' or died in plane 'accidents'?

3. Maybe there are not really any GOP heroes.
They do not even honor (beyond lip service) the men and women that die in their wars.

That's harsh but after the GOP show in the House Friday night that is how I feel.

I'm talking about people who have been killed under more mysterious circumstances.

22. Yeah, but the tumor was a Democrat.
Apparently it took over his whole brain in the end, for on his deathbed Mr. Atwater expressed regret at the many evil things he had done.

24. Considering Bill Casey died of a similar tumor, at a "convenient" time....
...who's to say that Lee's tumor wasn't of a "mysterious" origin?

Though it's entirely possible that all the hate the man carried around consumed his brain, literally.

7. Rep Larry McDonald
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 11:14 PM by ThoughtCriminal
Died when a KAL 747 was shot down by Soviet jets on September 1, 1983.

McDonald was a Democrat but was quite conservative (member of the "John Birch Society").

Edit: corrected date, added link.

McDonald was certainly "Special". President of the John Birch Society and apparently, a bit of a quack doctor too.

Another conservative "Dixiecrat". Alabama's segregationist Governor was crippled by an assassination attempt in 1972.

9. GOP heroes are people who *ignore* ethics.
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 11:17 PM by Marr
People who are willing to put aside morality in service to the Party. People like Oliver North, Liddy, Powell, Pat Roberts, and a list of professional liars too long to list, from Limbaugh on down.

So no- the far right-wing doesn't have "heroes" the way the left does. I'd say principled, old-school Republicans do- but not the current bunch. This current "conservative movement" is more like an organized crime syndicate than a political movement.

12. I suspect Lincoln would not recognize the modern GOP.
Lincoln did try to suspend Habeas Corpus that would be consistent with the modern GOP, beyond that very little is consistent.

27. Lincoln and Bush had lots in common
In fact, Bush still has a ways to go to catch up to Lincoln.

He suspended Habeus Corpus.

Invaded without congressional approval.

Changed the Constitution by himself.

Arrested his critics.

Shut down newspapers.

Had an anti-war politician deported. (a congressman from Ohio with a hard to pronounce name --watch out Dennis, but luckily Bush doesn't read a lot.)

29. You are absolutely right, on all counts. It is hard to admit,
for as much as I dislike *, Lincoln did so much worse. Let's not forget that he waged war on civillian population in the South. He truly has blood on his hands.

15. Lincoln was not a Republican
This is how he was characterized, look familiar? Sorry for the size, but you can't read the outlandish statements unless it's large.

28. Lincoln ran on the republican ticket. He was a Whig in heart,
but after the demise of the Whigs, he sneaked into the republican party. Whigs wanted centralized everything, especially power, and federal subsidies to corporations (sound familiar?). Lincoln made it happen by waging war on seceded States and winning. That was the end of the US Constitution.

Regarding the cartoon, it's precious, but I have trouble understanding it. Are the republicans saying that Lincoln is a liberal? Please help me out, I really would like to know.

killed in a plane crash in Georgia in 1991(I think) after being rejected by the Senate as Secretary of Defense. Also, Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania, husband of Teresa who later married Senator John Kerry. John Heinz wasn't all THAT right-wing, but he was a Repuke.

17. we also lost Malcolm X, Huey Long
Alan Berg (Denver Liberal talkradio show host killed by 'the order' in the mid 80's, inspired the movie 'talkradio') Patrice Lumumba, Che Guevera, Chile's Salvador Allende, Rosa Luxenberg...the rightwing lost antony samoza, their beloved richard heydrick (killed by czech terrorists) ...charles lindberg, the rich guys on the titanic....and going back a little, julius ceasar, ghenhis khan. cain (of cain and abel fame) ...probably their biggest hero is winston churchill, though the vile old tough died in his bed, and of course ronald regan, the famous actor ...who also died of old age!
i guess the greedy selfish world of rightwing nuttery doesn't produce heroic figures(?)

25. Salem Bin Laden
Osama's big brother, and the funder of Chimpy's first failed oil company. Around the same time Junior's business history was being investigated by the SEC (when Poppy was in the White House) it seems that poor Salem, an experienced pilot, suddenly made a sharp left turn into some high voltage power lines and the result was his last Texas BBQ.
