School needs items for Holiday Boxes for the Troops in Iraq(PLEASE K&R)
REPOST

:patriot:

Our school is going to be making and sending Holiday Boxes for the troops in Iraq. I was hoping that DUers could help in their efforts. I thought it would be wonderful if the kids had lots of items to send. We don't get a whole lot of participation in these kind of things.

If you are able to donate, please post in this thread. If you are unable to maybe you know someone who is. If you would could you please kick and recommend this thread as often as you can.

I have provided some links to online stores that you can purchase and ship from online. You can also of course buy and ship yourself personally.

16. Sounds like it's Dec. 2nd.
I have a box of crossword puzzle type books that my Mom liked. She has passed on and I will send them to the school. I'll get a box together and send it on Monday. Since my Mom was a flight nurse in the Army/Air Corps in WWII, I think she would be happy with my sending them. They are a couple of years old, but have never been written in so they look like new. Hope they will be of some use.

If I can get out and get some mechanical pencils to send along with them I will, but I can't commit at this point. If I get them, I'll include them in the box.

11. Yes, its good that people help. But I just have to ask
Isn't this the sort of thing we are paying Hiliburton billions of dollars to provide?

And even for those things that may not be provided by Haliburton, shouldn't much of this be provided by our government?

Where is the money going?

Tooth brushes?
Socks?
Deodorant?
Soap?
Shampoo?

Come on!

15. No way!
Won't send anything to anybody involved in the occupation of Iraq.

And I find it basically a bad idea to cheer lead a bunch of kids in schools in the US into thinking that this is some kind of legitimate national endeavor.

Never mind the free plug to some of the biggest corporate scumbags going.

Should of just thrown Walmart up there while you were at it, they got such "low prices".

when they come home? Did you learn anything from Vietnam?

20. Please don't forget the women--I have been told they have to provide
their own menstrual products. I hope this is no longer true, but it was true last year when I was working on a project to send books to specific members of the service.

As an old Vet, I know that nothing, absolutely nothing, no matter how large or small is appreciated like something from the "World".

These kids get my kudo's...these kids are on the ball in that school...:)

I may not like the fact these men and women are there, but they are our sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers and mothers.

My fight is with the evil cabal that sent them there not with our srvicemembers.

I urge DU'ers to support our men and women in harm's way,,,O8)
