What is Cheney's motivation?
The guy has more millions than he can ever spend. He's been vested with more power than anyone in human history, so far as I know (unless you actually count the buffoon as president in more than just name). Cheney knows he has a bad heart and that he'll die soon. He's also well aware that 81% of the country hates him.

I've always considered him an evil SOB, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what he's after, what he wants. As near as I can tell, he just wants to drag as many Americans as possible down with him.

Your insights on this monster appreciated.

Chinatown. That has a scene with pretty much this exact conversation in it.

8. John Huston's character. Yep. Insatiable lust for power.
If anything, people addicted with such a lust for power become even more insatiable as they foresee a diminished time remaining. It's a bizarre 'last gasp' effort -- crossed circuits in their psyche. Cheney is a true sociopath.

24. Fred C Dobbs typifies a better Huston character (as director) of Cheney!

2. Looks like compulsion to me. And the sonuvabatch may
believe he is immortal.

I actually know someone like that. Their wealth doesn't really make them happy, they always are needing more.

5. I've pondered this question too
Probably a pestilent mixture of bitter resentment toward liberals, an anal-retentive need for control, and a complete vacuum where others might harbor compassion.

6. Maybe it's like what Doc Holiday says about Johnny RIngo in "Tombstone"...
"He has a hole through the middle of him that all the violence and destruction in the world can't fill."

"But what caused the hole, Doc?"

"The need for revenge, Wyatt."

"But revenge for what, Doc?"

"For being born."

14. This movie I have seen
And what an apt comparison.

This would, of course, mean that Cheney is mentally ill, but I don't guess that would come as a big surprise to most.

And I do believe the plan is to rule the world. But Dick will be dead before too long, and he won't get to see the fruits of his labor, ergo, my question.

19. He reminds me
of the character Simon bar Sinister from the old UnderDog cartoons, except he is not funny. But he is following his machine nature, and is entirely unconscious of his humanity. Thus, his behavior as Dick Cheney is no different than cutting grass is my lawn mower's nature.

22. He wants the head Nazis in the new thousand year Reich to...
remember him and to keep his name on their lips and his memory on their minds, FOREVER. He wishes to be thought of, for generations to come, as one of the great founders of the PNAC/Reich.

Looking death in the face, causes one to dwell on the fact that they may soon be planted in the cold ground and forgotten and I believe it scares a coward like Cheney.

This last battle Cheney faces now, with the Grim Reaper, makes no exceptions, or exemptions, for the rich and famous! Dick knows he has to walk that lonesome valley by himself and it scares the shit outta' him! A coward dies a thousand deaths and that's gotta' hurt. Thus the constant sneer!

30. Shelley knew, that if you'd seen one tyrant, you'd seen them all.
Ozymandias Cheney is a legend in his own mind.

I really do believe that Bush/Cheney are in fact, "the great disaster" predicted for years, for the year 2000. We almost dodged the bullet, but the evil ones on the SCOTUS intervened on 12/12/2000 and set us on this course to ruin.

The very people who should have upheld the will of the people, sold us all out, for their 30 pieces of silver.

20. What was Hitler's motivation? What is Satan's motivation?
I would submit, seriously, that the Forces of Darkness are probably involved in Cheney's life. Wouldn't surprise me a bit to learn that he sold his soul to the devil in high school, and received a promise of being worth $50 million dollars in return.

21. What's good for Cheney is good for the country
Cheney was an architect of the privatization of the military. He's worked his whole career to wrestle America from the liberals. He's a patriot, saving the country and it is just a pleasant coincidence that he and his friends are getting filthy rich.

Here's my hypothesis: Cheney bought this VP spot from the BFEE by taking over Dresser Industries, which was a Bush company long-ago involved in top secret military contracts. It was going to be bankrupted by asbestos claims. Cheney said, "I can fix it, but I can't get elected. You give me the Dim Son, who we can sell to the American people, and I'll take care of youse. Oh, and, by the way, I'll take care of Halliburton, too." I think the Dim Son belongs to the neocon wing of the religiously insane and clueless - not because he's actually religious, but because he's staked this out as his turf. Therefore, I think he's actually somewhat at odds with Poppy and Cheney who are solid, old school oil-military right wingers.

The privatization of our military represents, for all practical purposes, a coup. The defense of our country has been outsourced, and not too surprisingly, so has our government.

28. perhaps the old adage: Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely
...aplies here. Another possibility that I see, but pardon me while I don my tinfoil-hat: What if dick cheney is part of a master plan to reduce the earth's human populations and bring about a New World Order ruled by those who control the large corporations and the resources of this planet. I do not see cheney as the chief architect of this plan but he may be aware of these architects and he is certainly aware of his place in that plan. His puppet, bush, is merely a tool used to place cheney in the position he is in now and bush makes for a convenient distraction while cheney carries out his parts in this plan. Bush has neared the end of his usefulness and is soon to be discarded while cheney is to continue his efforts from outside the American government. Frankly I have felt all along that things are going very smoothly according to this plan.
Then I remove my tinfoil-hat and find the world looks normal once again and I hope my little conspiracy theory is nothing more than an over-active imagination.

29. I think Chevy Chase summed it up for me in "Christmas Vacation"
He's a "cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit."

Hallelujah. Holy shit.
