Has anyone heard what the final death toll is from Katrina?
It seems to me that within days, I heard quotes of 30,000 dead in Pakistan from the earthquake and yet here at home well over two months after Katrina hit not hardly a word from the corpwhorate owned MSM as to a final death toll. A blogger on Daily Kos said 4000 people were still missing.

1. Count not final yet
I thought I saw somewhere that the ninth ward just reopened to homeowners today. The article said the homeowners were expected to find some more deceased residents.

5. I CANNOT believe
that they can't send SOMEONE to these homes to check for bodies before the residents go back. This is the most gruesome thing I can imagine. And it's not even a consideration!

"Well, you can go back home now. Just watch out for Grandma & Grampa in the attic. Make sure to clean up the mess before you call anyone"

I have never been more disgusted by anything in my life!

3. It's still climbing, as people return to the 9th Ward.
They're still finding bodies (mostly the relatives are finding them).

Huff Po had a story yesterday saying some 104 have been found in N.O. alone since the official search was called off... mostly elderly in attics.

It's gobne from something like 972 to 1076. About 220 in Mississippi. So about 1300 (and counting).

6. The latest news
Is that the death toll continues to rise.

I heard yesterday that as people are slowly returning to New Orleans, they are finding the dead bodies of their family members and friends, in some cases.

So unfortunately, the death toll is continuing to rise. I really wonder whether we will ever get an accurate account.
