LOL - anti gay marriage rally was really HUGH (Not)
This event was widely advertised, they expected at least a thousand supporters which is standard for this heavily republican area. Only 35 people showed up. The repug candidate for governor, Tom Gallagher was supposed to speak to the crowd, but decided not to take the stage when he saw the turnout.

4. Unfortunately I have to
These are the people that took over our school board a few years ago. This is significant, because if this rally had been held last year, the turnout would have been huge, the fact it was pitiful, means that the Christian Coalition's power in this area is fading fast and for me that is HUGH.

In that case, take me with you. I'm loud enough for ten people.

Take a bow, SW - The Pussycat drinks to you:

16. Good!
I'm glad to hear that. :) These people aren't Christians for sure. If they were they would care more about the poor than gay people. In the Bible the word "poor" is mentioned 3,000 times. Compare that to how many times the word "gay" is mentioned or something similiar to that word. Jesus didn't talk about gay people but he did divorce and adultery, Pharasiee's, helping the poor and elderly and how to not be hypocrites etc.

6. What an absurd quote!
"I think everybody should be married and have kids"

Do the fundies honestly believe that people should have children whether they want to or not, whether or not they are capable of raising them, whether or not they are mentally stable enough to cope with children?

9. I guess they're into punishment. Some people are wise enough to know
they don't want/need to be married and/or have children. Many people who ARE married and/or have children really shouldn't.

17. And what about those who can't?
My cousin and her husband are married and haven't had kids yet, so should they not be married or what? And besides some families may not be ready to have kids yet.

7. they forgot Massachusetts!
These articles always like to mention how many states have banned gay marriage. But they never say anything like,

"Gay marriage is legal in one state, Massachusetts. Despite a lot of whining by the religious, nothing has really changed there."

12. And don't forget:
That "ungodly, marriage-destroying" Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the nation.

Can anyone guess which states have the highest divorce rates?

Anyone?....Anyone?.....Anyone?.....

That's right...the deeply religious deep south.

So who's really "destroying the institution of marriage"?

Projection, anyone? :puke:

It's just a matter of time before Gay Marriage, or civil unions, or whatever become the law of the land. There's no way this sort of discrimination can last, especially with the younger generation's opinion on the matter: It's the only fair, American thing to do.

And then the Fundie-mentalists are really gonna scream.

18. Exactly
Isn't Texas the biggest state with divorce ratings? And besides what do gay people have to do with my future marriage? :eyes: Good grief.

14. and this is how yet another 'issue' craps out

Looks like the 'danger' seems ever less horrible to contemplate for average people, nationally.

I'm a little surprised...Naples? James Kennedy's outfit, Coral Ridge Ministries, in Tampa Bay was a major Christian Right organization behind the effort to suppress gay marriage in Massachusetts. You'd think they could drum up a few hundred people in Naples.

15. Oh that's funny
I'm glad to hear that too. I think we as a country are way more open-minded about the issue but there are some really loud mouth people who are just spotlighted more.
