until O'Reilly is shitcanned.

I am sure someone with enough legalspeak could come up with a reason that would fly long enough for Faux to figure out the guy's a liability. The loss of the market in SF? Wow.

If it works there....? Let's go national!

(yes, I know I'm dreaming... But let me have my dreams!)

1. There are plans for a resolution asking Fox News to
fire Bill O'Reilly:

http://www.kron4.com/Global/story.asp?S=4107018

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Supervisor Chris Daly is firing back at Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly for comments he made on his radio show Wednesday that encouraged al-Qaida to "blow up" Coit Tower.

O'Reilly reacted to San Franciscans' approval of Proposition I, which discourages military recruiters on public high school and college campuses.

He advised President George W. Bush to react by withdrawing any military protection for the city. "...If al-Qaida comes in here and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead," O'Reilly said.

...Next week, Daly will introduce a resolution before the Board of Supervisors asking that Fox News fire Bill O'Reilly.

2. I think FOX should be investigated for
treason and unAmerican activities. (I hate to use this phrase because of McCarthy, but can't think of another way to put it.) Cutting off the rotting ear of a carcass doesn't take care of the whole stinking corpse.

4. It wouldn't stand-up to activist judges. Modify your constitution
Define radio and television as a medium designed to carry anything except Bill O'Reilly.

Because when you're afraid restricting someone's freedom is Unconstitutional, you have to modify the Constitution.

6. Let the SF city council have a chat with the local cable operator
and remind them that they approve the franchise.

Let everyone in SF call the cable company and tell them that they are going to cancel their subscription if they don't drop FAUX totally - it won't take long before that whole damn channel will be out of that market.

12. I think that would work best as that IS an area they
have control over. Hitting it nationally would take too long and knowing how the people have a short attention span, this firestorm may not be around by even next week.

10. Huh? How about a little thing called the First Amendment?
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 04:38 PM by longship
I hate Fox as much as anybody, but regardless of the fact that they lie and spew hate, the First Amendment guarantees their right to lie and spew hate.

Yes, we should insist that O'Reilly be canned for his hate speech. But no law can or should be enacted that would be a clear violation of O'Reilly's First Amendment right to spew all the hate he wants.

San Franciscans are doing it the right way. They are speaking out loudly and publically against O'Reilly. It *will* have an impact, although I suspect that the impact will result only in O'Reilly dissembling on the issue. In the end, people will be turned off by O'Reilly and will continue to turn him off. In the end, the market will decide where the First Amendment cannot. (I know, I know, this is a decidedly Republican statement, but I can't think of another way that doesn't infringe on constitutional protections.) ????

On Edit: Indeed!! Where is Ahnold? Why hasn't O'Reilly heard from him?
