Torturing folks in other lands takes away the sin of it
torturing folks here on our own sacred soil, that's verboten. but if you torture people on the shores of egypt or russia in the so called 'black sites', well, that's perfectly o.k. in the eyes of jesus.

what a country!

1. How about if WE don't
torture them but we, like, you know, hand the the electrical cord and stuff. Does THAT count?

2. The argument I have started using with torture proponents...
...is that if torture is justifed and morally acceptable, then as a nation we should have the nads to stand up in front of the world and say so. If we have to hide it, offshore it, and pretend we don't really do it, then we must believe it is wrong.

That and hitting some who claim to be Christian and think somehow desperate times justify it with a little Jesus:

"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" --- That's the word of Jesus Christ himself. It's a statement about losing your moral way in pursuit of a goal.

3. Torture proponents should be exempted from rules preventing torture.
If they don't have a problem with torture, then let them be tortured. Who knows -- maybe they have some good information, right? And, if not, we can watch them scream and cry out in blood-curdling pain and agony, right?

:sarcasm:

4. In prisons of the Soviet Gulag
My teachers were really hipped on the whole anti-Communism thing. We read Solzhenitsyn in literature class. I went on to read the whole Gulag Archipelago series. It really strikes me that we leased the Gulag to fulfill our imperialist, neo-conservative goals.

5. Sounds like bush brother having sex with whores in Asia....
Well, it was in another country. My wife wasn't there with me. Until the wife slapped him with divorce papers.

6. I believe that this may be "deflection" as well...
USAsians might be a wee bit surprised at what goes on in their OWN country, rather than abroad.

If you think that this ONLY happens in Eastern Europe, Near Asia and Thailand, you may be in for a bit of a surprise...
