California DUers-- please don't forget to vote tomorrow....
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 07:51 PM by mike_c
We must send der Ahnold as resounding a defeat as possible. His reelection candidacy hangs in the balance. Mike C's handy special election proposition reminder:

Vote NO on:

NO on Prop. 73-- Stealth anti-choice measure, amends the CA consititution to require parental notification. Imposes new penalties on physicians that perform abortions.

NO on Prop. 74-- Blames teachers for the republican administration's failed education polices and takes away their right to defend themselves. Lengthens the probationary periods of public shool teachers and makes it easier for school boards-- which are political office holders, often with NO education background-- to dismiss teachers.

NO on Prop. 75-- Silences the political voices of labor, without any similar restraints on corporations or share-holders. This is a very poison pill. PLease go to the polls tomorrow if for no other reason than to defeat this initiative. This is the centerpiece of the Governor's attack on nurses, firefighters, teachers, and other public service unions, but it will effectively silence ALL labor organizations.

NO on Prop. 76-- The "cut school funding act." Gives the Governor unprecidented cover for underfunding schools-- which it targets specifically. This is another facet of the attack on education and teachers. Ahnold must have had some bad experiences in school, because he seems to have a particular animosity toward teachers.

NO on Prop. 77-- Yet another republican attempt to control state redistricting, again by revising the CA constitution.

NO on Prop. 78-- Prescription medicine costs and discounts measure written by the drug companies. This is a very bad prescription!

Vote YES on:

YES on Prop. 79-- A genuine prescription discount benefits program for Califorians. The pharmaceutical industry has spent tens of millions lobbying against this initiative because it will acually help consumers (and reduce corporate profits). They say it will likely be tied up in court for years, and will not actually help anyone as a result-- what they don't say is that they are alteady lining up the lawyers to try and block it in court-- if it's tied up and unimplemented, it will be because of those same pharmacuetical companies.

YES on Prop 80-- Undoes some of the damage caused by utilities deregulation in the electric power industry. Also known as the "affordable electricity and preventing brownouts act," it subjects California electric energy providers to regulation by the California Public Utilities Corporation. See if you can guess who's fighting this initiative tooth and nail.

The ultimate humilation for Arnie would be defeating Props 73-78 and passing Props 79-80. PLEASE take the time to join me at the polls tomorrow and do your part to humiliate the gubernator. Polls open at 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM.

xoxo
Mike C.

I ain't takin' no chances this time.

I felt this same level of confidence on Monday night last year in November too, assured that the polls were correct and we were going to send Bush packing.

Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself.

18. Find this interesting article on the
gropenator on buzzflash..

"At Arnold Schwarzenegger's "victory" party on Election Night 2004, the governor stood onstage and basked in ballot proposal wins for Propositions 68 and 70, both about Indian gaming, and against 66, which would have changed the Three Strikes Law. But Republicans got nothing else out of him -- not one seat in the Assembly, not one seat in the Senate, no new congressional offices. One year later, it's no surprise he's again pushing his agenda via special election. But Assemblymember Jackie Goldberg (D-Los Angeles) says this particular slate of propositions is more than just another end-run around the state's elected legislators. She calls it the "corporate takeover of California."

"This time, she argues, the issues on the ballot are carefully linked together and designed -- using corporate money -- to advance conservative interests and to keep Democrats away from the polls. She claims the governor even said as much in an e-mail to supporters. If he succeeds, she says, it's a "catastrophe," creating a governorship that no longer needs a legislature: "They're saying, 'Heck with this notion of democracy. It's so burdensome. It's so time-consuming. It gets in the way.'" She calls it a short-sighted act of political sabotage. Is Arnold set on a course to cripple the government?"

"Why do you call these propositions the "corporate takeover of California"?

"Jackie Goldberg: If you take a look at who's paying for all of this, it's really extraordinarily large businesses. And they're not even all California corporations - the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent a quarter of a million dollars on one of them. That's in addition to the California Chamber, which tends to represent the largest corporations. You've got all the major pharmaceutical companies spending a fortune confusing the people about Propositions 78 and 79. You've got huge amounts of pharmaceutical money in Proposition 75. In fact, there is not a single one of these that isn't being financed by the largest corporations and the biggest players -- not just in California. The governor has fund-raised in New York, in New Jersey, in Florida. They're after a Tom DeLay-kinda takeover like he did in Texas.

How does Proposition 76 turn Schwarzenegger into a king?.."

24. big pharma is spending MILLIONS to create exactly that confusion....
If Prop 79 is passed, they will spend millions trying to prevent it in the courts. Hell, if nothing else it will expose them for the bottom-feeders they've become. I get three or four emails a day saying that Prop 79 will cost taxpayers millions in court costs fighting for implementation-- what they're not saying is that the sponsors of those emails are themselves the pharmacuetical companies who will spend millions trying to prevent the implementation of Prop 79. They FEAR it.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE vote NO on Prop 78 (the drug companies' bill) and YES on Prop 79.

6 no 2 yes! I'm all for the ultimate humiliation.

hopefully, the mail TO them works better than the mail FROM them

have no faith, trust or confidence in the system as it now stands ...

changing the Secretary of State didn't help my confidence

41. i will be manning the polls. duly at your service.
by the way, i was told by the republican party that i should vote by mail this time, and that this was an imperative thing to do (btw, i'm a registered republican). funny, my folks who are democrats got no such advice or warning from their party...

just a heads up.

oh, another thing, i'd ask for a provisional ballot if you don't wanna use a voting machine. by our instruction as poll workers we are allowed to offer provisional ballots to everyone and anyone who asks and is registered in california. that said we are actually taught to discourage people from voting outside of their appointed district and told to say nothing *absolutely nothing* about having provisional ballots. so... if you are in SF but registered in San Jose and can't get back in time just walk up to any poll place and ask for a provisional ballot. their first response is to "gently resist and guide you back to your precinct," but if you insist we are obligated to provide you one.

be aware that votes are tallied in this order though: voting machines>absentee>provisional so there's a trade-off in terms of initial vote results, which shouldn't mean anything but as we've learned recently mean everything with this vacuous, traitorously complicit media.
