Military wives tell "W" to buy diamonds for Laura
:eyes:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - What should the leader of the United States buy his wife for sticking with him through 28 years of marriage? "Diamonds," was the resounding advice given by military wives at a luncheon on Tuesday where President George W. Bush asked what he should give first lady Laura Bush for their anniversary on Saturday.

"The best decision I ever made was marrying Laura in Midland, Texas," Bush said to applause. "Some question whether or not it was the best decision she ever made," he said to laughter.

"Speaking about decisions, I got another decision to make, and maybe after lunch you can help me. And that is: What do I get her on the 28th anniversary?" To which the shouted response was the gemstone of romance -- diamonds. "Never mind," Bush joked. "Sorry I asked."

9. "The best decision I ever made was marrying Laura..."
I'm only familiar with a few of GW Bush's decisions, but marrying Laura certainly seems to be the least *apocalyptic* of them.

19. Same here. Vile.
Having read the book, "Blood Diamonds," about the history of the diamond industry and its sellers, there is just no way I could ever wear one. Even a "new" one.

17. Yep, the perfect gift
for people with too much blood on their hands.

Diamonds are just sparkly overpriced hunks of carbon anyway.

16. bush uses that same line about the "best decision I ever made was..
marrying Laura" blah, blah, blah at all speaking functions. He has to come up with a new line because this one is becoming real shop worn.

21. And of course, the diamonds MUST come from DeBeers...
...where the diamond miners sing the praises of their bosses and reward them with monthly gifts of chocolates for their humanitarian efforts.

OK, I'll stop now. Better to buy diamonds from Arkansas if you can find some goodun's.
