"Is America Still Red Vs. Blue, or Purpler?"
Dial back to a year or so ago, to the wrenching, vicious, partisan escapade that was Campaign 2004, to a time when we were told by a thousand pundits that America was deeply, hopelessly divided.

And it felt that way: Family dinners became shouting matches. Bush and Kerry signs were snatched from yards. Blue and red were at war.

But 12 months have passed since then, ample time for the nation to relearn the principles of civil discourse. We have had time to heal, to start listening to each other again. To become, in a word, purpler.

So have we?

1. Pretty purple where I live. And going more to the blue spectrum.
Will continue so long as DEMS lay off red state bashing and spend the energy actually listening and communicating how they would change things.

We elected a DEM governor who really LOVES taking the fight to the junta in D.C.

2. I don't like this new purple
The Dem party has moved so far to the right since Raygun, this new color purple is 1 part pale blue to 1 part Screaming Bright Red.

We need a new Midnight Leftist Blue in the mix before we can get a true royal purple.

4. Ask them if they are red on Bush's economic policies?
Outsourcing, gas prices, utility costs, Privatizing Social Security, New Bankruptcy Law, Elimination of Mortgage Interest/State/Local Taxes, treating Company Paid Health Insurance as Income, etc. Not even going to mention Preemptive WarS.

See how many support * then.

3. Where I live things are pretty segregated.
In the St. Louis metro there's a lot of segregation of race and socioeconomic status. Most areas are usually either blood red or true blue. You can be on a road in the middle of a blood red area, drive 5 miles, and then you'll be in a totally blue area.

5. The Democrats have grown spine and turned into bold....moderates.
Yessiree, they sorta want the war to end - but not too soon. They kinda support abortion rights...but not enough to filibuster. They're upset over the budget deficit..but not enough to vote against "defense" spending. Why, just recently they closed down the senate...for a few hours. Some of them courageously blamed the Bush gang of (gasp) lying about WMD...but they still support the occupation.

Now, if they can just figure out why the people are fed up with politicians and consider them all self-serving, money grubbing, two-faced, bullshit artists, who'll say anything, do anything, to keep the donations coming in.

8. The 1992 Clinton election is
the most we can hope for.Sadly, this will take a while with a 2008 president whom is REALLY a united and wants to heal this country. We have 3 more years of this...and maybe a bunch of indictments and maybe an impeachment.

9. Interestingly, the blue represents Republican and the red represents...
Democratic in this map. I've seen it like this before, but I never understand why they do this since I'm sure that it confuses EVERYONE.

11. This made me think of something that I saw on Free Republic...
Edited on Sun Nov-06-05 07:13 PM by I Have A Dream
when I was checking it out one of the few times that I went over there. They were lamenting the fact that they had to have red as their color. It made me  to see how upset they got over something so stupid. (They said that we should have red because we're the "commies" -- not them. :) )
